Pineapple as main carb source??

Note: If your looking to take advantage of the natural enzyme bromelain in pineapple.. Then avoid canned pineapple.. Enzymes are denatured/destroyed by exposure to high temperatures. Canned pineapple is cooked as part of the canning process.

thanks for this info! i was getting canned pineapple.

so i have to buy a whole pineapple or can i get the ones in the fruit section, that are already cut but not canned?

Yes...

Yes, thanks for mentioning BigGuns... didn't think of people doing that...

GT- The already cut kind is PROBABLY fine, but you get the most bromelain from the core of the pineapple though, so I don't know your store cuts theirs

If anything, yes, fresh is best, but sometimes I buy the frozen kind at trader joes, it's fresh frozen so no heat involved.

It's not hard to cut once you get the hang of it... not that I know personally, :D), but my wife can cut the rind off and have one sliced up in a few minutes... then again, she grew up in the Philippines where it's an every day thing :D

Any fruit that is canned is most likely pastuerized.. Cut up at the store should be fine, but buy as fresh as possible since as soon as the fruit is cut it begins to oxidize.. Optimally, you would buy a whole pineapple, cut when ready to eat, and store the leftovers in an air tight container or even freeze..

Hello, I'm new...

Hi,

I'm a 26 12 months old man.

I'm currently addicted to marijuana and happen to be smoking for 10 many years.

I also have other private issues that I'd wish to produce and judging by the quality from the posts I've go through right here thus far, I'm optimistic this could be a good location to spend a while gathering data and feedback.

I've no thought how to add friends but when you've got conquer a marijuana addiction and could be willing to help, please add me.
See you around.

Canned vs Fresh vs Juice

Is Pure Fruit Juice still going to have its original enzymes, vitimins etc

Or are they damaged similar to canned fruits?

I love fruit as my main source of carbs, but tend to use pure juice as its easier. Only use some fresh as it time consuming to constantly go to the fresh fruit market.

?

Im addicted to this shit , i could easly eat a pound at a time !! ,

i have been eating only 5 oz with my breakfast and post workout meals.
5 ounces has 21g carbs and 16 of that is sugar carbs so im sure its not somthing you want to eat to much off or later in the day.
BUT
one of the ladys that trains where i do told me that pineapple is actualy a negitive calorie food meaning that its fiber content is high enough to offset the calories it provides.? She seems to think that if you ate pineapple as your only carb source that you would lose a good deal of fat this way.
(Persoanly i can't see that happening with so much sugar it has to cause an insulin spike)

I had origionaly started eating it as a source of good digestive enzimes , along with green apples and papaya.

I have been getting about half of my carbs from fruit lately and was thinking about what to cut out as i go into my contest prep carb wise? or if to do so at all and just run 500mg Metformin with it 4x a day
Sorry to bump this old ass thread, but I recently tried pineapple and I’m addicted to this shit too! I know a lot of guys like Nick walker use it in their diet since it helps with digestion. It’s definitely been helping my meat and rice meals get down easier. It actually has me looking forward to meals now.

but my digestive enzymes already have it so i guess im gucci

apparently helps with healing from surgery, so another big plus for me at the moment

Bromelain is good for surgery healing yes, but pretty sure it’s a blood thinner so don’t go apeshit w it

I blend up a good bit and add it to rice + meat meals if the flavor will mesh. Like Hawaiian chicken or coconut amino (soy flavor) beef. Def helps get it down

The bromelain content in pineapple is predominantly in the core which is inedible by most standards.

In other words, eat pineapple because you enjoy it, not for the bromelain content. Supplementation would be best for bromelain.
agreed!

and remember, CANNED pineapple is useless as it does not contain bromelain

Y’all must be ballin to even consider pineapple as a primary carb source.
White Rice all day. It feels like I’m splurging when I opt for sweet potatoes instead lol.

With that said I do love me some pineapple. Admittedly, anecdotally eating papaya aids digestion more than pineapple for myself.

I eat white rice all day every day myself!! It's hard to beat a $12 20-pound bag from Wal-mart for cost efficiency! At 300g per day right now, so it usually lasts a couple of weeks!

I typically stick with in season fruit and right now I can get pineapple (even in these crazy inflation times and food prices) for $1.50/pineapple. Of course, pre cut and package is like $5-$8 for like 14 ounces but right now in season I buy like 6-7 pineapples for the week it's like $11 total...cutting them sucks though!

I wish food prices around me were low like that.
If they were, I’d eat pineapple everyday if I try some of those pineapple cutting tools until I found one that truly worked proficiently.

maybe in a cutting context, but imagine in the bulking phase having 500g of carbs from pineapple would mean eating more than 5lb of pineapple 😅

Oh don't get me wrong food prices are nuts. We've gone from $200/week to feed my family of three (plus a baby so I'm not really counting him) to now $400-$450. It's insane. We literally more than doubled our food costs over the the last year. Pre covid, we could do it for abou $150/week.

I've started shopping around for in season fruit and veggies only though and I can actually find pretty good deals. They had a lifetime supply of pineapples on sunday and they are nowhere near ripe so I literally bought 12 of them for <$20.

I did look though yesterday and pre cut pineapple was $8.99 for 14 ounces! Where they really kill you is the packaged stuff and I have to admit we are suckers in our house for the convenience. A 16 ounce pack of mixed fruit was $11.99!
