Piriformis Muscle

All great answers. A qualified chiro will check to see if the SI joints are moving properly, and slam the joint back into place, no pussy electro stim or low back adjustment, a real SI adjustment. Then followed by your wife kneeing you in the butt muscles for about 5 minutes.

Of note: This does not takes months to fix with this protocol! Maybe 3 times.
Otherwise, find a better dr/ chiro who knows how to put an SI joint back in place. Only motion palpation analysis can ascertain this.

I am doing any kind of stretch that stretches the hamstring, also laying on floor bring left leg up, places left foot on top of right knee, wife puts one hand on my right pelvis and pushes down on left knee towards floor, then I cross left leg over right and twist my leg towards floor, kinda hard to explain the stretches, the Doctor didn't advise anything about Heat or Ice, PT said to sit on heating pad before doing the stretches, some people have even mentioned going to a Chiropractor

That's the same position you need to be in with your left leg up and putting your foot on your right knee when using a foam roller or lacrosse ball. I would do both sides even if the other isn't bothering you yet. You will know when you have it in the right place.

For me, A hip replacement did the trick, try that!

All kidding aside, the thing that gave me most relief were the stretching exercises and sitting on a tennis ball where the pain was in my shredded posterior region. (let the jokes begin) The tennis ball was like a "pressure point" therapy. At the end of the day it was from my hip, but holy Narf, the motion to lift my leg out of the car was unreal when my nerves were not allowing this muscle to perform at my superhuman standards.

Pwood.

Being a sprint/power athlete, I've dealt with this MANY times. No offense to the chiropractors out there, but that is not a FIX, just a temporary relief, which is why you constantly have to go back.

As stated above some people are just unlucky in that their sciatic nerve actually runs THROUGH their piriformis muscle. But lets assume you are not one of those, and even so, nothing you can do about that anyhow.

What constantly worked for me and for others I trained was training legs with almost exclusively Front Squats. Every time I put the back squats in, the pain starts to creep back in. I love squatting as well and is in fact sometimes the only thing I use a weight room for.

A GOOD massage therapist will help immensely if they are strong and can get deep enough into the muscle. I had one spend 1 hour on just one leg at one point. But it provided LITERALLY 6 months of relief.

Foam rolling is a great way to keep the process staved off along with simple hip mobility work and PWO stretching as needed. But if you want to get it rolling immediately, find a GOOD ART massage therapist and get ready for some pain.

Great advice.

I found that the massage therapistys had to use their elbows to get deep enough and enough pressure!
