Hey bros,

I recently had a MRI on my left quad and it found microscopic tears on my quad tendon. The doc does not recommend surgery which is great news seeing as I would be out a good full year and I plan on doing a show sept 2015. First one as a super heavy :) Anyways, I am going to be getting a stem/grastin therapy done on it weekly, which is covered by my insurance.

He also suggested PRP which is NOT covered by my insurance and is roughly a grand to have it done. Here is my question..I can get my blood centrifuged (my wifey works at a vet clinic and can do it herself) but my biggest hold up is doing the injection myself. Would it be reckless to do the injection myself or should I drop the grand to do it?

The doc won't allow her to centrifuge my blood and use it (which is a good amount of the money) due to liability issues which I understand.

Suggestions/thoughts? Thanks!

I can't tell you what to do but if I had that option I'd gladly put it in my delts and knees all by myself. I would love to be able to squat again. I can't even squat 100lbs without my right knee swelling up and hurting for a week and a half.

Not sure how complex it is but its worth the 1k I hear

This is why this board is cool.

DIY.

In for the information. Great question.

I hope you get the info you need and get it done on your own.

I heard it is too..the only problem is I'm a lowly college student lol. it is hard enough to pay for gear and food :(

Dude I'd pay the grand and get it done professionally watch how it all goes and study the procedure.. then in the future do it yourself.. also let us know how it goes bro

Do u have to do anything or is this an issue that could resolve itself by taking it easy?

One prp shot is unlikely to fix anything. A grand is way expensive. I've had 6 prp shots in my elbows for like 700 a pop from a specialist in one of the most expensive cities in the world haha

They helped my elbow tendinitis (which is terrible). My doc was upfront about this being a therapy that'll take time to work and not provide instant relief like cortisone. He also used an ultrasound to pinpoint the shots.

Maybe look into the peptide BPC157 for a fraction of the cost.

Is this the same thing those athletes like Kobe and Nowitzki go to Germany for to treat their knees?

One vial of BPC157 helped my elbow tendonitis significantly for a little over twenty bucks after the half off deal.

haha I was thinking that myself or have my buddy who is a resident come with me and pay close attention.

I am doing grastin/ a stem therapy on it. I can't take it 'easy' on it otherwise not much will happen. I have to strength the muscle still.

My doc said he would use an ultrasound to find the areas and inject there. he did say it would take several sessions..

I have never heard of BPC157-would y'all mind educating me a bit on it? I was recommended to use tb-500 to help heal the tendon. Is it similar to that?

Thank you all for your responses!

BPC157 can actually fix a detached tendon. Very cool studies at pubmed.com.
It's much more effective than TB500 and much less expensive due to much lower dosage needs. My elbow tendonitis was so bad I would scream out at the gym on my first bicep curl rep every time. It persisted for months without improvement. I bought one vial of BPC157 and injected 250mcg per day directly into the tendon itself. My tendinitis is 75% better off just one vial.

My mom is doing PRP for both tendons on her arms. Its covered by her work comp. Its the last solution to help her with the pain.

PRP is awesome when done by somebody who knows what they're doing. If done by someone with no clue the results will be minimal which is why traditional medicine doesn't embrace it, its not an objective fix. The person giving the injections must understand all the structures that are weakened and know where in each one to inject and how much. I've had lots of PRP done on me, was lucky enough to have a doc sponsor me so it was free of charge. If I had issues again I would happily pay for it though as I've had such great results with it in the past. Done both patellar and quadriceps tendons, both triceps tendons, both AC joints, and several spots through the low back. You may need a series of two or three injections to really hammer the problem but one hill be helpful as well.

With prp you spin down 30-100ml of blood into like 5-10cc. It would be hard to nab the platelets out with just your eye and a syringe. The prp centrifuge has a pattern in which it spins and kind of has an approach to extract the most platelets. It's very painful and a doc could numb you and give you meds to help. So. I would not try this yourself.

Shop around. Some docs are better and cheaper than others at doing these injections.

I had PRP injection on my knee for a torn patallar tendon. It was a pretty bad tear and I tried everything before I did this. Physical therapy, quit doing legs for 6 months and nothing seemed to help really. I got the PRP done and it was like a miracle! This was many years ago and luckily my insurance covered it but now I doubt they would. I think they covered it because it was so new and the doctors made it sound like it was something different trom PRP. It really helped me out tremedously.

I had fantastic results with PRP on a calcium deposit that was in my patella tendon, took 2 $600 treatments but would do it again if necessary. It had got to the point almost any leg work are cardio would kill me, especially next day.

damn..seems like it is well worth it. I will have to see if they are willing to do payment plans. Highly unlikely, but worth a short :)
