So the gov't doesn't control and TAKE almost half of anyone's money they make in the US and perhaps more elsewhere..and all for the 'greater good,' which is the scariest phrase in the universe.

That is called charity, wether donate your time or money. Think of yourself? You must be very young and no family to think that way. By the way, sucess in marriage includes putting your family first. People are weak because they are needy? Abraham Lincoln came from a poor uneducated family and went on to become one of the greatest Presidents. By the way what you are referring to is NOT natural selection. What you are thinking of is called "social darwinism"....which by the way was never created or accepted by Darwin himself....read a fucking book maybe you'll learn something

It feels good to help others when you can, and this is the season to feel good and helps others feel good about life no matter what, you already have your health and you are alive you can at least be kind.

I try to donate items such as old appliances, clothes, good toys, etc every year as well as change into pretty much every salvation army pot. The little bits help. I also get a nice write off from the hard donations. I wronte 500 off on a bow flex I donated last year. This year we will be donating a good working dish washer and clothes. If you don't want to give for a good reason, do it for a selfish write off. I do it for both. Little children who are wanting did nothing to be in that situation.

this is good.....I have always donated to VA, and sometimes to Salvation Army...people get rid of stuff all the time, and these organizations come right to your house by schd appt..cant get any easier than that.

The food banks are having a hard time keeping up all over the country because of the amount of familys looking for help this year.

If your able to, please help out if you can... a small donation of food or a few dollars can really help some familys in your area.

Great reminder. Everyone should help out when they can or if they are able. We all are subject to misfortunes and having someone there to lend a hand is a great comfort. Food banks are a excellent way. If at very least and all you can afford is a prayer than do that. 1love

I believe it to be a good thing to help those who are living through difficult times. To look away from someone who is in need of help would make me a no good self centered prick. This not who I am. It comes natural to me, when I see someone in need, to help. Some people just do not know what it's like. I understand this as well because there was a time when I cared for myself only. I make no judgement here. I can only speak for myself that it is better to give rather than receive. Things such as this make you feel better about yourself. The more you do for others helps you to see that you are here not just for yourself. We are here to help eachother. To deny yourself in order to help some is the meaning of love. This does not mean we do not take care of yourself and family first. It means if you have it use it for the good. We are not here just to care for the physical for in order to be made whole we must care for the spiritual, mental and physical as well. Do as you must but I will chose to be whole.

no one does anything without a tangible benefit to themselves......aka selfishness...

a number of posts mentioned tax deductions.....and 'feeling good about oneself'. If that's what you've been brainwashed to feel by helping strangers then you ARE doing it selfishly....not selflessly as you seem to think.

There was also something about family.....that's the most selfish thing in a person's life.....you benefit when your family succeeds since you're a part of it...

none of you posted anything that is against the philosophy that i stated, if i'm remembering everything right now.

But everyone makes such a choice about what has a benefit to THEM for THEMSELVES.....the PROBLEM is when people think that others are OBLIGATED to do such things...or to feel a certain way doing them. such as...

you SHOULD donate to the poor and needy
you SHOULDN'T drink alcohol because it's bad for you
etc etc etc....no one has any right whatsoever to bestow upon ANYONE at any time what they should and should not do

May I speak more on this please. When people do something out of love for others they do not seek to receive the natural feeling of inner joy that comes when doing as such. If they are only doing this to feel good then this would be a selfish motive. If I implied in any way that someone should do things for others just to feel good about themselves, I apologize. This was not what was meant. This would be the same thing in the case of tax deductions. You are not doing this out of love for others solely. There is a returned gift to self. Now in the case of family I would have to say that not all people who start a family benefit from any success if there is any success at all. On the contrary, there are many people who start families and give up lifes pleasures, which is a sacrifice, in order to care for the family. Many times people have children and later in life they are abandoned by those same children who they cared for. These people are placed in nursing homes and left to rot. I know these things because I have seen this. I have held the hands of many as they passed from this life into the next. This is what I can share. If this falls on deaf ears it is becasue they can not hear and not necessarily their fault.
