Podcast with Chad Nicholls- Tell All

Just beating a dead horse once more. I think US pharma grade must be 96%+ pure but I think janoshik says most of the Chinese "generic" is over 98% pure. So who's to say some dirt cheap Chinese generic isn't "objectively" better than whatever legendary pharma GH? I'm not a peptide chemist but how come it's so impossible for China to produce "real" GH? Many, many people say China simply CAN'T recreate real Tren hex either, or any tren because "back in the day NO ONE could take more than 3 Para a week, not even Dorian, so the claims of taking a gram of tren nowadays shows all the tren is shit." Same with those Anadrol's in the podcast. I think Mike Morris put up a reel on IG of his old Anadrol bottle and "wondering" if this isn't why the quality of competitors is down now, they can't even get real Anadrol nowadays.

King Kamali was talking with Dom I think who said today's GH is shit because he could hardly shoot 4iu of Humatrope without an intense burning sensation behind his eyes! He said it was because Humatrope wasn't even pharma grade, it was laboratory grade!

Do you think this this is because the doses were just commonly agreed upon? Sort of like an invisible threshold that people were afraid to cross?

And with Humatrope, why would “human” growth hormone with the “huma” referring to human… even be produced if it weren’t meant to be used by humans? What was the purpose of manufacturing something in mass for laboratory purposes?

Here’s something I was thinking about this week…

From the 80’s into early 2000’s, we had the most incredible bodybuilders on earth. While we still have incredible bodybuilders, most of the best have climbed the ladder on their own. Today’s athletes are mostly self made and self funded out of necessity, and good athletes have other opportunities.

During the 80’s/90’s/2000’s, Ed Connors single handedly brought something like 500+ athletes into the sport. A substantial number of them would have quit if he hadn’t housed, funded, and given opportunities for these guys. We haven’t had anything like this in 20 years, aside from the athletes that were farmed by the Saudi/Arab athletes being farmed from Oxygen gym.

Could it be a case where availability of gear was lower, cost was higher, PED culture was still developing, and the athletes were just inherently more gifted?

I recently watched a video that showed Tony Atlas hitting a front double biceps in the wrestling ring. There’s NO WAY he was on as much gear as guys were taking in the last 30 years, but he could have gone to any current NPC National show and made competitors shit their pants. He was a generational talent. How often do we see that now?

Just a theory.

Hope this is okay to post up. About 6-7 weeks ago started a podcast with my friend/client Chris Massaro who turned pro at USAs. Chris and I always had great conversation so we said screw it, lets do a podcast. Had our first guest on last night, Chad Nicholls. This was probably the most indepth podcast Chad has ever done. We went into PEDS, what he would do specifically with some of the guys today like Nick, Samson. Also goes into training, mentality, big ramy, ronnie coleman, and so much more. This was a blast and info packed! We will be having him on again soon for a part 2, along with so many other heavy hitter guests!

I have never watched a BB podcast before but this was gold!! Really interesting to see things from a coaching perspective. I know it was barley touched upon but I would love to hear more on "suffer management". What have you done in the past and do you recommend any books on willpower and how to create it when you need to.

Thanks!

The above was just an idea for a future podcast.

When Dorian Yates became Mr. O, did that validate an entire generation as hardcore training? There's only one Blood and Guts DVD, everyone else's VHS and DVD isn't nearly as hardcore. That generation had tons of guys big into the night club-night life scene, they brag about it on their podcasts to this day, during preps and off-season, while bashing modern day pros. Amateur titles meant more & National shows had greater depth which is undoubtedly better than today. Pro wise guys are way bigger, they have unhealthy obsessions with social media; including the standard body image issues similar to other generations, which makes them attempt to portray themselves as Dorian Yates training at 8 weeks out, a Doctor, Scientist, Chef, Dietitian, Rich, and a Life Coach everyday year round. All that along with delusional and overbearing coaching, which has most in modern bodybuilding living an unrealistic and unsustainable monk like lifestyle, that has produced some insanely large freaks, they would dominate in previous generations and are uncomfortably stronger than other generations. (outliers like Ronnie don't count lol). Conditioning wise the big bosses don't want that sunk in look and do not reward it anymore, if you want to watch conditioning, watch Classic only. Conditioning wise it's ridiculous and ignorant to complain about the look of modern guys. Don't bash the athletes, go give your feedback to the Head Judges and Owners.

You have my full attention on this. Love this, thank you! Will cover it

Gear in the 80s was insanely cheap and high quality. 90's is when it changed and the market had to evolve to meet demand. Unfortunately that led to real shortages for normal guys and low quality Mexican vet gear. UG would take off in the 2000s and then get hammered by Operation gear Grinder and Raw Deal.
I started later than the 80s mid 1990s was still hard but better. In the 1980s all you needed was a wholesaler license and you could order directly from the pharm companies. Unbelievable and impossible today. I remember being at the junior nationals in the early 90s and seeing this really big bulky powerlifting guy and one of the sponsors of the show told me that he had been the biggest supplier of the pros and when he got busted Haney gaspari Christian etc list 20 lbs lol. He got busted in the late 1980s and only crime was tax evasion cause steroids weren't controlled then. Huma and protrope were Uber expensive and taken in microdoses vs today. California remained the mecca during all this because of the close proximity to Mexico and many dealers had access to legit euro suppliers on the west coast. Guys would walk around with suitcases and deal directly in the gyms back then.

A guy around here lived out there in the 90’s and 2000’s, owned a house within walking distance of Gold’s. He said there was a guy who worked at the Nutropin factory and would steal bags and bags of GH. A year later, Dave Palumbo told the same story and I just laughed out loud. Allegedly, he was a huge supplier.

Someone can correct me if Im wrong but I think Kamali invented the laboratory grade thing. He doesnt know what hes talking about, not that I and others here would expect him to either though. It was just humorous to me.
Apart from that, Kamali looks kinda dangerously swole to me, looking at his head, not that Im judging his life choices. I think the GH doses most likely were low due to poor availability and crazy cost.

Another thing that struck me with Chads interview is that he says abuse is at an all time high. But then you listen to all the coaches and they instead claim their health consciousness and moderation is at an all time high, everyone constantly ordering blood work and so on, unlike in the past. Fouad was a coached by Chad but once said he didnt know you could be a bodybuilder and use BP meds at thee same time. One podcast I looked at recently a pro and a couple of coaches were discussing when to drop injects before show time to reduce lumps and inflammation. At the same time we know perhaps most stick all sorts of things into their muscles the day before LOL. Some contradictions here.

Chad considers himself to have been a sort of middle of the road coach when it came to doses and risk taking. But then we know of the episodes like when Ronnie wanted to go to the hospital because he felt he was dying but Chad said no and Ronnie chugging a gallon of water at once and so on.

Another thing is the subject of diuretics where most now say they are pretty much obsolete and you dont need them if youre ready but how many say in the top 10 at the O took a diuretic. My guess is probably everyone but its just a guess. Id appreciate some more qualified guesses here LOL.

Hahahaha listen to this. Feet numb in 6 minutes.

All these statements from the old guys the “old-school guys” I’d take with a big grain of salt.
I always say it’s the classic talk of an old man: “back in my day everything was better, back in my day we didn’t use so much, back in my day we trained harder, back in my day this, back in my day that.”
Everyone wants to believe their era was the best. And we all know that’s bullshit.

One day we will say the same thing about our era too. That’s just how it goes. Same old shit lol

lol brings back a lot of memories. I am 43 now but used to work security at a lot of the arnold afterparties here in columbus in my 20's and man....20-25 years ago those dudes (and women...OMG...you guys have no idea how much the women loved to party...) were all about that night club life. The amount of rec drugs, drinking, and partying the guys in the 90's and early 00s did is just insane.

Like I said though...the girls were the craziest. Sex crazed women on a ton of drugs (ped's and rec) and alcohol. Much crazier than the dudes...

Interesting as at that same time there was a guy, young guy in college, in NYC who had the same story, snagged unlabeled vials of Nutropin from the production line.
