The last year and half ive been experincing chest pain on the left side. I have been to the doctor and emergency room several times.. I had an ecg/ekg , halter monitor, blood test, heart ultrasound, and a couple other test done.. The doctor doesn;t see any problems with my heart... Its very frustrating that im still having this pain.. Im beggining to think it may be a pinched nerve in my back.. Right were my shoulder blade ends on my left side I have had a huge knot.. At work it aches really bad and I think its radiating to my chest...

Here are my symptoms:

Sharp pain in collar bone occasionally
pain in back
pain on left side of chest below the peck
Pain in chest when im having anxiety

It is possible that it is anxiety that is causing this. A doctor once told me that "Anxiety will do whatever what you want it to not do". Not telling you to get on pills, but if an fast acting anti-anxiety like a benzo makes it feel better, than you've got you're answer. Good luck.

Your pain doesn't sound cardiogenic in origin and it sounds like your physician has ruled out cardiac causes. It is unlikely that it is referred pain if your upper back is the source of the pain--it sounds much more like localized chest pain (e.g., costochondritis, local pinched nerve, or general muscle soreness). When you push on the area does it invoke the pain? If so, then it is much more likely to be cosstochondritis or general muscle soreness. Does the pain improve when you take an anti-inflammatory and worsen with exercise? Once again, this is much more suggestive of musculoskeletal pain. Over the years, I have seen a number of individuals that have developed left sided chest pain from simply over training there chest muscles. Since they tend to be right-handed and stronger on the righthand side of their bodies, the pain associated with the training localizes to the left pectoral area. Once they notice this "chest pain," they start to develop anxious symptoms about it (because they are worried that it may be cardiac in nature), and this results in an "anxiety-related" component. Based on the limited information provided, it is most likely musculoskeletal in origin, but if you feel that there is a strong anxiety-related component, you should discuss the anxiety with your physician. I hope this info is helpful.

Do you ever go to a Chiropractor? They could help if it is in fact a pinched nerve.

I pinched a nerve behind my shoulder blade and it affected my left arm. I got regular Chiro care and was fine in a couple of weeks. I might have spent $500 but I was back on my feet pretty quick and it was debilitating pain.

A girl I know had the same thing going on and she went the regular medical route and 6 mmonths later her arm was still usesless and she was in a great deal of pain. her insurer & Doc took their sweet ordering xrays, then mri's and regular office visits and pain meds and ani inflmitoriies, but basically they did nothing to solve the problem.

If you don't beleive me go look at a nerve chart and see where the nerve that goes to the chest area is...........I bet it is right behind the shoulder blade!

Here is a great chart, click on it, then click on the area of your back where the knot is and see if it correlates to your chest area and if it does, go get an adjustment.

hope this helps :)

Some possibilities

My nephew had a similar problem - pain on the left side of the chest. He's only 14 years old and his parents were very concerned, rushed him to the ER (several times) until they received an all-clear from their physician. He was finally diagnosed with a pinched nerve. He's had chiropractic care which cured the pain.

Another possibility you might want to try is a good massage to the areas involved.

Another possibility, if you try the above and the pain returns, is prolotherapy. I've had it done on my shoulders, knees and lower back with great success. You just have to be man enough (just kidding :D).

My exact symptoms.

Thet steadily got worse.
The problem was a heniated disk at C7 pushing on my spinal cord.

Get an MRI now, and maybe you can avoud surgery.

Not kidding.

Good luck

I always get the best information from this site!!! I appreciate all of your help soo much..

I try rubbing around my chest to see if its localized pain sometimes its tender. Sometimes i cant really find a the exact site where the pain is at.. Its got to be a nerve. Well im sitting here on the computer now Im getting pain all the way down my elbow..

Its hard for me to get it out of my mind that its not my heart though.. I was a pretty heavy drug user a few years ago and ive also been on an off aas for the last couple of years.. Doctors said I have a very healthy heart though

Last edited:
Maybe Costochondritis (tendonitis between the sternum and rib, but the pain can radiate outwards)... Sounds similar to what I was feeling and that's what it turned out to be.

im going to go see a chiropractor or get a deep tissue massage.. Hopefully that will help a little bit.. when Im on in drives my bp up a bit higher then normal that sometimes makes the pain worse.. It doesn;t get higher then 145/80 but that is still high
