Possible return to stage at 55 for Masters Pro Card

I am seriously considering competing again next year (2025) as there is a slim chance I could get a Master's Pro card. I'll be 55 in November and I'm still healthy. All markers look good, and I will make a point of being safe for my own sake and to set an example of what's possible. I know I have disparaged chasing Pro cards here and my feelings haven't changed, but for me it would be a nice way to close out 40 years in the sport. My first stage appearance was in 1988 as a natural teenager, and it's been a journey since then. I never would have expected most of my contests to be in Japan.

Things I need to fix:
  • Bring up the legs as they are still lagging since the bilateral quad rupture. Heavy, intense, careful training – no squats.
  • Continue to bring down midsection. I feel I have found the main culprit. Besides the cases of food poisoning, I believe long-term metformin use may have disrupted my gut bacteria. I stopped metformin a month ago and added daily B-12. It will take time.
Training is intensifying and everything is now being logged. Gear is up, but still modest in my opinion. Food will be very slowly raised, keeping pace with gym progression. Right now, the majority of my lifts are moving as desired. Training will continue to be my own interpretation of DC (Doggcrapp) style as it has produced the best results for me and suits my personality.

I think I will know before the Spring if I can pull it off or if it is out of reach. I'll keep you updated on my progress and decision as I continue this journey.

I don’t think you’re chasing a pro card, I believe you’re solidifying or validating what you know to be true- that you have earned a pro card and are capable of it physique wise.

After my last show and knowing I’m set and turn 36 in February I had to find my “why” in why I’m going for my pro card still. The answer became very simple- because I said I was going to.

I hope you log your journey no matter what you decide here on PM.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. @bbxtreme - it seems you understand my feelings well ;)
Good luck with your journey as well!

Yes! Dude you’ve maintained such a great physique over the years I don’t think you really even need to push the gear that hard. You’re gonna crush it!

Old is gold...or at least that's what they tell me 🙃

I was having some distensión this last year and narrowed it down to metformin definitely irritating my digestion. I will be following along. I know you can do it if you so chose. It’s fun as we age to still try and find little ways to get better.
