Possibly straining my hip flexor

I did deadlifts yerday and now my right hip flexor region hurts when i extend my leg, like say walking up stairs or squatting down and moving back up. Any ideas as how what may have happened or how i could prevent this from happening after deadlifts next week?
 
I have strained that area very badly on more than one occasion.

For me what helped was resting it, and using one of those foam rollers. My whole outer quad/hip region gets very tight. I also think I don't have enough groin strength in comparison. Sort of an imbalance between the outer and inner quads. Anyway, that foam roller and stretching really helped.
 
Left Hip Flexor

Bro, if I were you I'd get an MRI done to find out exactly if your hip flexor is torn.
I injured mine a while back and after finally getting an MRI done, it showed there was a partial tear at the insertion and outer hip area which was already healing. I was sent to the physio dept at hospital and put in the hydro pool twice a wk. I'm doing exercises in there using a float under my foot, also stretching out the hip flexor muscle 5 x day at home. I will be doing this for 3 wks before being put in their gym to strengthen the hip muscle area.
 
Thanks but i dont think its that serious. I dont have insurance so an mri isnt a choice anyways.
 
I did something similar about 6 months ago doing
deadlifts - I think I twisted a little rather going straight up and felt it imediately in the right glute. It helps to rest a week or two and then use a roller or tennis ball and stretch it out.
