Been working longer hours at work so when I get done lifting its around 8:30. Been having a post workout shake of course but having a hard time getting a solid whole food meal in before bedtime. Is solid food that important post work out?

rather than worry with a shake , why not just have a big meal ?

unless it takes more than an hr or so before you can eat then don't sweat the quick shake post workout , eat 10-12 ounces lean beef or chicken and 6-8 ounces sweet potatoes

If time is an issue and also not being hungry (im never hungry after a workout, it usually takes 2-3 hours for my appetite to return) I will just blend 1 carton of egg white (its pasteurized so there is no chance of bacteria being in them) with 1-2 cups of quick oats and one scoop of chocolate protein powder. Although it sounds nasty, trust me, it tastes really good... and this way your still having your shake but also getting whole food.

Ya its more that I have a hard time forcing food down after I work out especially after a large muscle group work out like squats or deadlift.

Ya I guess I need to man up and eat my food. Even if its just a couple chicken breasts

Should I cut carbs out post work out if im trying to drop body fat?

Unless you go crazy all the carbs you eat will go to replenish glycogen stores in your body.

if its your last meal before you go to bed, yes IMHO. eat some veggies, but dont load up on starchy carbs.

No carbs postworkout is a great way to get cut. I like to have just protein postworkout then a pro/carb meal 90min to 2 hours later.

If you can fit it in I'd do 50 grams of whey isolate directly post and then 1.5-2 hours later some oats or sweet potato and chicken right before bed. If you can't fit in both then I'd say go with the whole foods meal with the carbs.

Gonna definitely add the egg whites to my shake. Extra protein can't ever hurt. Me and carbs never really got along. Go straight to my love handles. Wasnt worried when I was powerlifting but now im focused on dropping body fat. I know my body needs them just tricky only eating carbs when I need them

Fix up your diet and lower your carbs and everything will fall into place. Then when you get to where you want slowly raise them, i wouldnt completely drop carbs slowly do it and work cardio into everything.

I usually have a shake and some oats right after my workout and then about 1.5 hours later I will eat some chicken and some green veggies. I work out later in the afternoon.

I get home about 8:30pm, I have a shake before I leave the gym, about 9pm I eat 10oz chicken breast, 1 cup brown rice, and a vegie. Seems to work well.
