Hit a PR today that I wasn’t necessarily chasing but haven’t seen many people do it and I was proud of it.

Always strong on dips and 180 was my previous best but today I hit 205x7@224 body weight.

I know weight PRs aren’t nearly as important in bodybuilding but just thought I’d share.

Ironbutterfly bro!!!!🤟

NICE.....

Impressive. For me im careful when adding weight to weighted dips and chins to make sure im not cutting the rom short for sake of progress. Same with rack chins.

another thing is........dips (i feel) were the single most movement that killed my elbows.
i would go heavy too....4...5 plates on a chain...second would be close grip benching.
you know you get that mindset where you have to go heavy heavy...heavier....ends bad.

i started doing this.....just static hold body weight, or in the case of bench, very slow reps.

you can get away with it all in your 20s....30s......even 40s....start moving up there and it ALL
goes away.....fairly quickly unfortunately.

Interestingly enough dips never bothered me. I have to be careful too much flat benching at heavier weights (1-3 reps) bothers my shoulder. Military press hurts but military pin press doesn’t… I think bc I can set the pins to nose height and that transition is where it hurts, JM press/skullcrushers if not on the floor, squat wider than shoulder width… trying to think what else. But I know dips def kill lots of shoulders but I’ve been very lucky as they carry over to bench strength a lot.

thats the thing.....they didnt bother me either.

i had i slight injury in my 20s (bench shirt was twisted slightly on left arm)
2 weeks it was fine...AT THE TIME. now i get the same pain as then all the time.

I think dips are responsible for my effed up shoulders. (I haven’t benched pressed in ~50 years. And no overhead pressing too.)

Funny, not ha ha funny, story. My wife had a frozen shoulder years ago and she saw an orthopedic surgeon at UCSF. (He was one the orthopedics for the 49’ers.) We got to talking and he said he could tell I lifted weights (that was 20lbs of muscle then) and I said yes, I do. He asked me what exercises I regularly do, and I did. Seizings that opportunity to brag I told him what exercises and how weight. He just shook his head and said . . . I will be seeing you later too. And he wasn’t far off the mark.

Not bragging here as there are so many stronger and bigger people on the forum, but my best dips at 162 lbs was 135 pounds. Not a lot of weight, but I was proud and shoulders be damned.

yup elbows and shoulders go first.:cautious:

Good point. We dont always know what is breaking... until it breaks.

The equipment helped extend guys careers and kept them safe but it was ridiculous 15 years ago now we have 1400lb benches... I just can't get on board. Maybe briefs like Dave Tate if my hips ever go but knock on wood...

135@162 is legit strong!

How many (pressing) movements/ sets did you do before this? Or was this done fresh?

Strong man, I've got some work to do 😅

i had some Inzer briefs i would wear on leg days.

i dont think they're made for men with big balls.
crushed my balls bro.

Nice set. The money set for growth would be the back off set following with a lighter weight and higher reps

yup......just blood gorging

20 years ago on Friday I pulled a 720 lb deadlift for a double at 223 lbs. I remember I was on 500mg a week sustanon 250 and 50 mg a day anadrol. Strongest I ever was. Bench presses 555 and squatted 500 for 12 to grass. Never maxed on squat that year as I was beginning my knee issues.

Nice! My elbows hurt just watching that though. I do just my bodyweight till I fail at the end of a push day. Even that will cause decent discomfort in my old elbows. I’m jealous!

I hated geared lifting lol. Sure it's cool to instantly add 200lbs to a lift but I knew that wasnt me being stronger and it was just such a pain... putting pat pulldown bar between someones legs and two people ramming it down to get brief/suit off, pliers to pull bench sleeves... no thanks haha.

I do like Dave Tate. He's 60 and still trains hard after all his joint replacements and such. He just loves powerlifting. That is a good application for briefs/shirt/sling shot.

Nice job!!!
But I must warn you to please listen to us older guys who have done this sort of thing years ago. The more you beat your body to a pulp in your 20’s the more pain you will be in as you get into your 40’s 50’s and beyond. I am jealous that I can’t do that anymore at 48!!😂😂👍🏽👍🏽

Thanks. I turn 43 shortly. Like I said I have my share of aches and pains and limitations, exercises I need to modify or adapt… dips were just never one of them. Just as after all the years in the infantry, firefighting and lifting I’ve never had a back problem. I gotta be fortunate in some ways because im definitely unfortunate in others 😂

I feel ya!! I’m a 26 year career firefighter on an engine and my back doesn’t give me trouble either. Everything else is a different story 😂😂

I did 6 sets of bench work first. Usually I do 3-4 sets of heavy shoulder pin presses too but not this day. This was the last day doing dips before competing 12/7 (push/pull not bodybuilding lol)

7 reps isnt good for hypertrophy? Never the less 90x25 is what I did after. Perhaps that is too high a reps in your opinion. I cant win! ;)

26yrs on an engine is a long time. I did. 12 on a rescue and retired early with our early pension and my military time. Funny jumping off the truck with an air pack for an AFA is no big deal at year one but after 26yrs your joints take a pounding that you never really realize! Stay safe and healthy my friend!
