Precontest cardio question

when you are prepping for a show whether it be a national event or local show what is a good rule of thumb for cardio- I have heard from 30 min/ day to 2+ hours/ day- now I know there are extremes like metabolism and losing weight to make a class as well as how much food you eat, but on the average to get in top condition with around six to eight weeks out( and already lean) what is the normality for you guys and also at what intensity- I would like to hear some opinions from the experts...

depends on the individual i have seen guys do it all thru diet and some do 2 hours a day
i adjust my cardio by how i look.
ex
start with 30min am i do this all year
bump to 45min am
then 30am 30pm
i have never been over 2 hours

i would rather eat a little more and do more cardio
 
thanks bigdan for the reply- I end up doing very similar but start with 45 minutes- another question is how do you guys curb your appetite-especially for the last couple of weeks- diet coke and equal are getting boring- I would like some new ideas or some herbal remedies maybe
