My gf just got a puppy,, and its a german shepherd rotweiler mix. Its my first pet.. and although he is cute as hell and I am falling in love with him.. he is soooooooooo much work.. and stress but I cant get mad at him when he makes a cute face.. Just get mad at my GF... Anyways.. I had some questions..

This dog whines when we leave him alone for a bit and when we come back he jumps and starts pulling our jeans and trying to bite our feet... and things like that .. is that normal.. ?? Is that his way of showing affection or is he becoming more and more hostile.. Lately he has been trying to bite us lot more thats its difficult to play with him and entertain him,, but when we take him out he is a good boy..

Also there is this bottle he used to chew on.. but now when we leave him alone he kicks the b ottle really hard and runs from one direction to the other and goes crazy..

I have exams coming up and so i been busy studying .. but i feel so gulty not being able to spend much time with him.. Is he getting pissed cause of that and becoming hostile?

He is teething all puppies bite and chew get him alot of chew toys. Also when you come home if he jumps on you make sure you yell at him let him no at a early age so he stops doing it. He is just playing with the bottle that is what puppies do. I have three very friendly pitbulls you raise him right you will have a great dog.

Yep thats what i want to do raise him right But its my first pet ever, and I have no idea. loll..

One more question i just realized. his sleeping schedule is messed up.. he sleeps mostly during day and evening and the most active at night.. so its hard to keep an eye on him or play with him.. any way to change their sleeping habits?? or should I even do that or would it mess up their natural rythm

Don't worry , your puppy is perfectly normal. If he wasn't doing the above mentioned then he would most likely have a problem of some description! As responded by previous member, your puppy's chewing is perfectly normal. It's the teething/play aspect that all puppies go through. As for the jumping up and clawing your pants etc when you get home that is normal too as is the whining when left alone. He just LOVES his new family! And is over the moon to see you! The most important thing you need to remember when disciplining him eg the jumping up on you when you get home is to be wary of your tone of voice. Puppies and just about all dogs for that matter will tune out when they are being yelled or screamed @.Unfortunatley when this happens, what do most people do? You got it, they yell louder @ their dog only fuelling their dogs 'apparent' listening problem...Remember their hearing is better than ours, ten fold so a stern disciplinary voice along with hand commands is all that is required to see him learning all and any of his new boundaries in no time. All the best!

could you please post a pic of the puppy? :D
i wanna see what a rottweiler+german shepard breed look like :)

Cute pup!

Everything you said is perfectly normal. I have a baby pit that i have had for about 1 months. She is almost 2.5 months old now, she is still chewing like a maniac, and it is only gonna get worse before it is better. Remember when you get angry don't beat or berate him, or he will resent, and cower to you. Let him know who is boss without being a tyrant. LOL! The sleep thing??? All dogs sleep alot, and during the day when u are gone what else is he gonna do???Sleep, he is bored all by himself. Good luck. :D

I wasnt so much worried abot sleeping during the day part,, but more abot staying up at night.. He whines and expects us to play with him.. Man i havent gotten a good nights sleep since we have had him..

Your puppy is young. At this point he is still propbably missing his mother and kin folk. He is trying to figure his way around your house and also trying to figure out your schedule. By this I mean for now he does not know when you guys are coming or going. BUT, after a litle while he will know and figure out the time frame of when you guys come and go. He will eventually settle down. My main question is, "do you guys have a big enough back yard-fenced in to let him run around in during the times when your not home"????

As you said he is a mixed breed of 2 dogs that require a lot of running space. IF you could put him outside to let him run and get passed his seperation anxiety until you guys get home he may adjust a little quicker. Like others have said he is also teething. Make sure to have plenty of chew toys for him. OR he will take it out on your furniture! When you play with him and rough house with him, try wearing some tough work mans gloves. Because he will definatly want to chomp on your hands to help settle his teeth that are coming in. hahaha

P.S. he looks like a great pup bro, best of luck with him!

He is so cute!!! :)

Keep in mind that he is just a puppy... a baby. They are just like a baby. They don't know anything, so you have to teach them. The best thing about these two breeds are that they love to be taught and worked. Start your training now while he is young, and you will have a well behaved adult dog. You have to be consistent with them by working with them every day. If you do, you will be rewarded. You will get back 10X what you give to them.

I would recommend a obedience school not just for him but you too. You will learn how to handle and work with him. I enjoyed the class as much as my former German Shepherd. The prices on class can vary, so be sure and check out the local collage for continuing ed classes. Sometime they offer them there for a lower rates.

i have raised a couple of dogs so here are my 2 cents:

i assume you are crate training. the best thing for both regulating sleep and seperation anxiety is exercise, schedule, and the crate. take the dog for a walk or play session, have it go outside, and then put him in the crate to sleep. go to the pet store and get a "kong toy", put a little peanut butter inside the kong, and put the kong in the crate on your way out the door. the dog will spend the first 15 minutes licking the peanut butter and then go to sleep.

exercise is key, you need to keep the puppy tired and then sleeping in the crate. this will help immensely to regulate the schedule and keep the dog happy.

I am feelingthe same pains- all normal. I am hoping for an early spring so the pup can start enjoying the outdoors. For now she prefers peeing on carpet rather then snow. It requires a good deal of patients to raise a good animal, but well worth it
good luck

Don't edify what the dog is doing by giving him attention he does not deserve when jumping on you. Wait till he stops and then show him affection.?? Is that his way of showing affection or is he becoming more and more hostile.. Lately he has been trying to bite us lot more thats its difficult to play with him and entertain him,, but when we take him out he is a good boy.Everyone is on the money with the teething part. I prefer rawhide sticks. They are rolled and about 12" long. Take them away from the dog when it gets small enough to swallow. The small peices of rawhide are not good for bigger dogs, they may swallow them which may lead to bowel obstruction and possibly death. Greenies and other manufactured rawhide products that are put together with adhesives are not good for dogs. The adhesive may stick the product internally and possibly create problems..

Also there is this bottle he used to chew on.. but now when we leave him alone he kicks the bottle really hard and runs from one direction to the other and goes crazy.. If you want him to continue playing with house hold items let him play with them. One day you may come home and find a bottle you wanted emptied out by you little freind. Don't give him shoes to chew on if you don't want him to chew shoes.

Good luck with your baby.

you should've called the dog "DA CUTENESS!!" ... :D

and don't worry about the whinning and playing around all night... we had a german sheperd a while ago and she GAVE US HELL!!! until she was about 8 months old... they tend to quiet down after that age...
and yeah, don't give them any attention or affection when they jump on you if you get back from work or something... when they queit down and set, then show them affection... cuz in a couple of months, he'll be as big as a house... and jumping on you would feel like someone tackling you :D

update..

he has grown into a big fella, and found himself a gf.

hanging out..
