I was doing squats today. I finished 4 sets and was going to move on to some presses, however, I thought to myself "Let me put on a little more weight and just do one more set". It was the kiss of death...I put on the weight....got to my second rep and on the way up I felt a tear in my upper left quad. It felt like guitar strings snapping in my leg and it made a slight popping sound in my ears......I immediately racked the weight and drove right to the ER. By the time I got there I couldn't walk on my leg so my fiance' got a wheelchair for me. I sat in the waiting room for an hour until I saw the doctor in the ER. He said it looked like a tear (I also have a slight lump in the upper left side of my left quad from the recoil of the muscle). Now I'm laying here with my leg wrapped up with ice on it....I'm going to try to sleep and in the AM I'm off to the orthopedic surgeon to get an MRI and see if I need surgery. This blows...........Let me here some experiences with quad tears from you guys.....the DR in the ER said not all tears need surgery...it depends on the severity..................Let me here some real life experiences from you guys.
 
damn

that has to suck dood, hope ur not like me and cant go a week without training..also it seems that tore muscle is never the same again/ physically/and mentally. good luck with the whole deal.
 
recovering here, no surgery, muscle tore not tendon, legs extremely weak. It took two weeks until I was able walk again normal after a month I can do body wt. squats. I trained hammies and inner thighs and calfs the hole time as to not lose too much size.
 
I saw the orthopedic surgeon today. He told me the location of the tear is not a place that usually needs surgery because it's not attached to a bone or a tendon. I was told it'll take about 2 weeks until I can walk on it, but I'm getting an MRI tomorrow so they know the exact extent of the tear. Depending on the damage it could take from 6 weeks to 3 months to heal.
 
just be patient. I had to alter my hole routine to make sure I wasnt using my hurt leg.
 
My good friend and client. This is sad news after all the improvements we have been achieving.
I will call Victor Martinez to get some advices for you for a fast recovery without lose leg size as he did.

Just relax, this is part of the game. I had tendon, muscle and joint injures. I do know it is frustrating and unconfortable.
Just fallow doctors instructions and don't mess with your recovery
 
This is a little crazy....but yesterday I couldn't even stand on my left leg without crutches. Now after a day of taking anti inflamitories and icing my thigh I'm able to actually walk without the use of crutches. Of course I've only walked around for maybe a total of 20 minutes the whole day, but this is healing quicker then I had expected. I can't work out my leg....however, it's a big deal to be able to walk within 2 days of my incident.

Don't rush my friend. Rest is the key for a fast and total healing.
