If someone were to qualify for nationals in September of this year , does he have to compete in a national show next year or can he put it off till 2020??

I was under the impression that if you qualify for a national show that you had to do a national show that year or the next otherwise you would have to requalify the next year but someone told me that if you qualify that it’s good for 2 years now.???

I have a buddy that wants to do a national show but wants to add some size , if would be great if he could qualify this year ( September 2018) then take off all of 2019 and start his prep in spring of 2020 giving him a full 16-18 month to grow , but I don’t think that’s the case is it??

I have always assumed that this year and next was considered two years.

Who Qualifies for National Level Competitions?
Beginning January 1, 2018 athletes must place top 2 in an open class at a National Qualifier to be qualified for any National show. All athletes that qualified in 2017 for a National contest are eligible to compete in in a National Contest in 2018. Also, athletes that place 3rd, 4th or 5th place at the USA or Nationals are also qualified for one year.

This qualifies the competitor for competition on the national level for a period of one (1) full calendar year after the year that the qualification took place
Only if a competitor’s one (1) year qualification has expired can an athlete enter a state or higher level national qualifying competition even if they have already won the overall title.

So if you qualify for Nationals in March of 2018 you have the rest of 2018 and all of 2019 to compete.
