Stu McGill says that usually back pain is more pronounced in a flexion based position or an extension position. However, I've found that I experience pain in both positions. Here's my example. The cat & camel pose/stretch/exercise. To put it simply, it hurts at the end position of the cat and the end position of the camel. In a standing position, extension seems worse but I'm definitely in discomfort in flexion too, just not as bad. Cat & camel seems equal though in terms of pain. So I'm not sure how this would apply to his model. I'm just trying to get a handle on this pain, that I can't ever get out of and it doesn't seem to follow a lot of the "rules" that I've learned over the years about back pain.
Thanks for any and all input.
