Question about BTC and digital currency

Hey guys, has anyone here ever used Bitcoin to pay sponsors?

If you have, please talk to me about your experience and security. I know there was some controversy a couple of years back, but it seems to be secure now.

I have no experience with it and after visiting the website, I'm more confused than I was before.

Mods, if this is either in the wrong place or inappropriate discussion, please handle accordingly.
