Hey guys. I wanted to pop into this thread and give you all an update.
First off, I decided against really pursuing help here from the thread or from Shelby due to an injury that my wife incurred less than a week after I started the thread.
She herniated a disc is the most ironic way imaginable. Not in the gym. Not doing anything strenuous. Turning in her chair while working! Seriously...we couldn't believe it.
At any rate, I didn't want to burden anyone else with what I was (privately) convinced was now a ruined prep. I told her that we'd increase steps, start working in some carb cycling and see how things might go. I never told her, but I was convinced she'd call it off if the back didn't resolve.
And I was wrong! The back didn't even CLOSE to resolve, but that didn't matter. She couldn't put shoes on without nearing tears, but she dug in, stuck to the diet, got her steps in and trained around this injury in a way that I don't know if I could. Some days, her leg workout consisted of 20-30 sets of extensions, curls, and single leg glute bridges (since she couldn't do any pressing or squatting), back days of 25 sets of every pulldown she cold imagine (because rowing was out of the question), and shoulder days made up of 30 sets of laterals (because FU*K pressing
).
TLDR, I know, the Reader's Digest version is that she is now in better shape than she was at North American 2 months ago! The disc just calmed down about 5 days ago, so we're not doing anything silly.
She's doing the first show (the qualifier) on Saturday and guys, I couldn't be more proud of her!
These are from this past weekend. We're not going to do anything stupid heading into this weekend. Just no training Thursday and Friday and maybe cutting water Friday night. I'll just see how she looks Friday morning.
