Do any of you folks use lentils in your diets??

(not the can stuff of course, lentils take 5-10 min to cook)

Or as a post training carb rather then rice?

The heath benifits are 10x as compared to rice and taste much better.

Thoughts?

Cheers

i find they digest very well. i am guessing the GI index on them is low so would be a less desirable choice for a post training meal.

I use red and brown lentils. They are one of the few alkaline beans. Soak the for a day before you cook the to release enzymes.

Lentils are solid. I would not recommend them as a sole post training carb though. I'd mix it in rice. I can't imagine it would feel good to eat 80g of carbs from lentils. Especially if like 30g is from fiber!

Is there any truth to this?

Would love to know!

If so, I would think by the time you finish cooking them (they only take 5-10min)
it would be disgustingly, soft and mushy after soaking?

Lentils should be soaked and sprouted before eating it. It's true. They contain anti-nutrients which are neutralized thru the soaking & sprouting process. Also, this process makes them Enzymatically active and digestible. Unsoaked/Unsprouted lentils are actually not easily digested/tolerated, which contributes to inflammation

Intresting, good to know.

Thanks.

ya wash them and soak them.

to be honest i find white rice to be easier to digest. i dunno if its the fiber or what but i get bloated and terrible gas if i eat a lot of those foods. esp if your trying to down 300-400g of carbs a day.

Why eating lentils INSTEAD OF rice? Mix them! That way you'll get a complete protein... the insufficient lysine in rice (or any cereal for that matter) and methionine in lentils (just as in every legume: white/red bean, pea, etc) will be offset by the abundant amount the other ingredient has in.

That's what vegans (should) do.

Even PWO it's a good choice: though lentils will indeed slightly slow down your meal's total GI, trust me it won't make any difference in terms of muscle gains... but it might on the other hand greatly benefit you health wise.

Just soak in water? how many hours?

Soak them over night. This also helps them from giving you gas. And if you want spread them on a moist surface with lots of air flow without letting them dry and they will sprout more.

This.

The nutritional factors are 10x compared to rice.

fiber content and protein content and great taste is the other reason as well
