Wanting to buy a good one. Just wanted to make sure that you can cook brown rice in them? Thanks

You can brew up some brown rice but it takes longer I think. I use Amazon to find good products (read the reviews/ratings). ;)

Yeah I got one, works great! Never tried it with white rice, but I have with basmanti good stuff.

look on ebay, you can find one dirt cheap. the one i got plus shipping PLUS insurance on the shipping total came to just $12, and it works great, check there before you look elsewhere and find one for $50-$150

My sweet little Asian wife cooks up a batch of rice every morning. Go to Walmart and score one for 12-15 bucks. There's no reason to pay more unless you're into name brands or need a large volume cooker. They're the easiest way to cook rice. We remove the pot from the cooker, shove it in the frige and eat from it all day.

Enjoy

target has some cheap ones. i have one by a brand called aroma i think, it has an option for brown rice and white rice and also for steaming. you can also steam veggies while cooking rice in there.

rice cookers

Why do you guys eat brown rice than say jasmine(white rice)? Is brown more nutritious? Personally I like the flavor of white rice better.

Brown rice aint even a rice, its a grain. White rice is more high glycemic but its better for glycogen refilling imo.

It is worth it to spend a little more for a good cooker. Zojirushi makes excellent models. Most of these have a "quick cook" option that makes perfect rice in about 15 minutes. Biggest mistake people make is they forget to clean the drip tray in the back. Yuck.

I don't eat a ton of rice, but in Japan it is a staple, and it is easy.
I like to make curry rice myself...
Yum...

What happend to the good old pot and boiling water?

lol good point, but in my experience, the stick-free coating in rice cookers is MUCH better than that in pots, whenever i use a pot, rice always sticks and burns to the surface of the pot and i end up with some wasted, rice cookers just seem to eliminate a lot of the headache, so if you eat a lot of rice, $15 ain't a bad investment

Shoooooots, I was brought up on rice everyday and I still cook it for my family. Then I met Phil Hernon and now my rice days are over........:p;):D

Brown Rice is more healthy than white rice also low glycemic. White rice contains starch and can turn into sugar and store as fat....

Of course you can cook brown rice in the rice cooker, but it depends on the water content. Add a bit more water when cooking brown rice...

Of course brown rice is more healthy but it tastes like crap, nothing can beat white rice when it comes to filling out after being depleted, basamti is my favourite. The asians Indian, Japs ect live off this stuff and they aint fat compared to Yanks and europeans.

Actually the Japanese are starting to get a bit pudgy from too much white rice. My Japanese wife for example GAINED weight moving back from the US and a meat heavy diet to the Japanese white rice based diet.

Basmati is Indian Rice, but jasmine is the best...nice texture and soft and moist but basmati can be dry!

My wife is a filipino and she is very slim and attractive eats alot of rice every bloody day!

I prefer brown rice myself and you get a whole lot more fiber. The crappy thing is I still use the old pan with boiling water and it takes much longer to cook.

Thanks for the thread though... I will look into a good rice cooker! :)

overstock.com has some awsome deals for rice cookers.
