RIP Matt Mendenhall

Yes that mighty mouse I mentioned.. she had alot of personal issues.. had a instagram page.. you coukd see her problems building.. sad
Yea I didn’t see your post before mine.
She definitely downsized quite a bit and a couple of her friends had said she was dealing with issues not related to BBing.

Yeah.. she hadn't touched a weight in years.. sadly had alot of personal issues and struggles.. you could see the slide downward..

She was raped in the army.

It is paradoxical, perhaps leaving the sport was worse than continuing to compete.

in NHRA pro drag racing if someone died during a race or during practice for a race everyone would assume it was from wrecking in the car.
in bbing someone dies and its labelled as a "mystery" or "cause of death unknown"
a guy has a blood clotting disorder and takes drugs that increase blood.... and we dont know what killed him? cmon....

We also have to understand what type of people this endeavor sometimes attracts.. I cant tell you how many bodybuilders in the 90s etc that my buddy Dave said had numerous other addictions.. nubain.. coke.. uppers .. downers.. the list goes on .. Mike Christian admits that he had a huge coke addiction when he was competing .. others shot nubain back then.. just like many today are addicted to stimulants.. now add this to the gear etc and you have issues brewing.. do you think these people stop all their vices when they stop competing? Or even stop training .. ? No.. matt was also open about his heavy drinking.. did he stop ? I don't know.. coukd it be covid like was stated earlier? Can't tell ya that either.. but when you have a very addictive personality ( which is fairly common in the game) it might not just stop at gear..
Facts...Nubian was and is something else,I know guys who still run it..

This shit is truly sad.
Honestly, i've been pretty pulled back on PM this month.
Hearing news like this is depressing and makes me rethink my life. Ugh.
RIP to a legend.
Ego, pride...tell it to fuck off! I've been feeling the same lately. Had a very OPEN discussion with my PCP about everything. His response was, "It's up to you".
Yep! Time to work at being a better/healthier version of me. Gotta be there for my girls!

I didn't want to say it but since it's already been mentioned about Matt, his drinking was problematic. It's been said that it was a big issue for him when trying to get into top shape for the big shows that he nearly won. I also read that at one point he was in a nasty car accident that damaged his neck and he also battled Candidiasis which made it hard to get dry come contest time. It's always a shame when anyone dies young but I just wish we could've gotten to hear his whole story (from him) and what went wrong because apparently a lot did go wrong and many believed he could've went all the way in bodybuilding.

Not a lot of interviews with him. This is from American Muscle.

I ain't nobody's dad, but for those of you saying it will change the way you do things, please actually follow through. I see this shit all the time, a bodybuilder or whomever dies, half the internet says they're gonna be better, but a couple months down the road, they're still doing the same shit, if not worse

this shit is serious and why, at 36, I'm not pushing a thing. I know I sound like some dickhead on a moral high horse, but you simply can't do these things for long periods of time and expect it to not catch up with you, at some point. fuck, even without much gear, I'm liable to have joint issues and all kinds of pain and niggles when I'm older just from what I'm doing now. if we're going to accept consequences, then we must TRULY accept them. and when it comes time to pay the piper, we point fingers at everything but our lifestyles for however many damn years

I hate seeing all these famous guys pass but it's not just the "famous" ones. As I look at my circle of ~6 guys who lived and breathed bodybuilding (meaning guys I was really close with), three of them are dead before 50. All heart attacks.

Two others have major health issues (one kidney, the other heart).

It feels like we are at the tipping point here...

I'm lucky that my close friends have nothing to do with bodybuilding. It was just me almost dropping dead at 38. I gave them a bad surprise.

Yeah they all went down the road of staying with it hard as they aged. I was very close with all of them but haven't been in years as I started to focus more on career. Over the last 8-10 years I don't really have any friends that are still "in it".

It makes me sad though. Those 6-7 dudes were all training partners and guys that I really cared about and were an important part of my life.

What I came to realize is bodybuilding is, or should be, a season in your life. Fitness is for life...bodybuilding is a season and then you have to move on. Those that don't pay the price.

RIP. its never one thing, its many things and many addictions we dont know about usually

perfectly said!

We all have or are still struggling with personal or mental issues. None of us is perfect. We can not judge anyone unless we are walking in their shoes and experiencing what they are experiencing.

People who get into the hard stuff most likely struggling with depression, pain or other debilitating issues.
Life is hard and not everyone can overcome their struggles. Let's not judge because none of us are perfect.

Everything we do is for the pursuit of some sort of happiness or satisfaction.

AAS, stimulants, opioids etc... Are all used to satisfy a need or fix a problem or get away from depression.

Life is fucking tough as a it's. Let alone if you struggle with mental issues like depression. True some of us are a tad stronger than others and can overcome whatever life throws at us but for others, it might be a lot harder.

Be kind to one another. Be kind to strangers and never judge. That person you are judging might be carrying a whole lot of pain and hardship on their shoulders.

We are all humans after all. If you are healthy mind and body, count your blessings and be kind to others who might not be as fortunate as you are.
