I am having surgery on Wednesday next week, 8 days after completely detaching the tendon. We opted for no MRI as doc is confident he knows what he is dealing with. Pretty bummed about the whole thing obviously. I was preparing for the state powerlifting meet in Nov. I am a careful lifter and was within my range. Did shoulders the day before, don’t know if this contributed to it. I always hated flat bench. Actually had not benched for almost 2 years, began training for the meet and was doing great. No pains or strains, no problems. I actually expected to take best lifter…
Anyway guys; be aware this shit can take you by surprise. Pop and down comes the bar… That was not fun. And I wish this on no one…

I'm sorry to hear that bro, good luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery........

did the muscle tear also or just the tendon. not fun, been thru it, i tore both

yeh, man, good luck. I tore and then completely detached my tricep tendon last April. Had surgery. Doing pretty good now. Having a super Orthopedic Surgeon helps......

Good luck in your surgery. Let us know how it turns out, bud

Mike

Good luck with the surgery! Tore mine about a year and a half ago. I've been there. Had surgery and had great results. Tore mine at the musculotendonous junction. Keep us posted!

man, i know what you're going through right now. i had surgery exactly 2 weeks ago for my torn pec. I'm more than down right now also. I was prepping for the Excaliburs in December and the Junior Nats or Nats next year.

same thing happened to me. i wasn't doing anything different, using the same weight as usual with very strict form and on the 6th rep when i got to the bottom...SNAP!!!!!!! an explosion. we should start a support group. lol.

i tore mine in the same spot. was the tendon shredded and do you know how the surgeon went about reattaching the tendon to the muscle? Man, that's encouraging to hear you had great results. How long before you were training again?

The surgeon believes it is a clean break at the bone. No MRI... he is just planning to reattach. If the tendon or muscle is shreaded he will do his best.
Thanks

My tendon was healthy. It was still attached to the bone. I think my doctor used something called fibrewire? and wove this through the muscle and attached it to 3 or 4 anchor screws with eyelets. I think the doc said you can tow a car with this special wire. ha. I had a really excellent surgeon who does the Houston Astros shoulders. He had artificial tendon waiting just in case he needed it but mine was fine. I thought he said they grow this tendon from pig intestines or something. I can't remember. I was on lots of drugs. ahahahaha
If the tendon pops off the bone, then your in really good shape b/c they can staple it back on. Our injury is really "mushy" though so just be careful and take your time with it. You should be able to start training it in 4-6 months, but it will take about a year for the scar tissue to fully form. I haven't been training hard, but repped 245 10-12 times on Monday (its been about a year and a half since my injury). Now my stupid "good pec" is bothering me. ahahahahaha But I am all the wiser and will give it a rest.

I tore my tricep tendon back in Nov of 2005 it took about 5 months for it to get back to somewhat normal... now its stronger than my other side.

Knucklehead...sorry to hear that!

I tore a bicep and had it repaired....it sucks but at least you'l' be okay again. Keep your head up....you are a good guy!

Please keep us informed about it. Tell the Mrs. hello for me!

Sorry this happened bro. Hope your recovery goes well. Say hello to Ms K ;)

three weeks post surgery

Turned out the tendon was still attached at bone... and the tear was at the muscle/tendon connection. it was painful for about a week following surgery. I Have my 2nd PT session tomorrow. They want me to stay in the sling for 6 weeks.... Ughhh... I have been training legs and calves alot LOL...
Anyway I found a super surgeon. Used to be the Ortho for Colorado Rockies and consult for Denver Broncos. He did a great job on me from what I can tell. No worries...

Great to here you recovering well. keep us posted on your progress.

Since we are starting a support group. Two weeks ago I hurt myself flat benching. And Yes Flat Bench is the WORST EXCERCISE EVER CREATED. I don't know what I was thinking. Anyways, I'm going for an MRI tomorrow to look at my left shoulder.

My Dr. is pretty sure its an acute tear of the rotator cuff. One of my tendons most likely the subscapularis has either torn off completely or its a slight tear. Since I don't have insurance should I even waste my time with an MRI? It's going to cost me 480 out of pocket. I much rather save that money and put it towards the surgery knowing I'll need it.

glad I am not the only one....Just tore my pec on monday 495 on the incline...2nd rep 3/4 of the way up and wham......doc seems to think that it is a torn muscle...no tendon injury. he is going to have a radiologist that specializes in skeletal muscle reads take a look at the mri ....of course if it is muscle tear than no surgery which is a bonus and hopefully a quicker recovery.

Mmmmmmmmmm

KARMA. Thats all I will say to you. Others think you are a nice guy but I know how you are. You come on here and warn us of getting a torn pec, but talk shit behind my back to MIKE S in private??? Good luck to you.
