I kinda got diagnosed with a few medical problems while I was out of the game, and while I was gone I was prescribed armour thyroid. I'm on 2 grains a day, (just started taking em), and I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. As far as the thyroid meds, I really just wanted to know if anyone has been on it and if so, what kind of effect did it have on muscle mass and weight loss.

And as far as the weights, I'm doing 30 minutes of hard cardio 2xday 5xweek, then off to the weights 3xweek, but my problem is that I have HUGE thighs and they are solid muscle so I don't really want them getting any bigger, kinda want them to shrink a little if possible, so should I just cut out squats all together, or do light wt high rep? Right now I'm at 315x10 reps.

And last question I promise. If I'm trying to lose wt but I still want good quality muscle, then should I be doing a protein supplement or any others? Not taking anything at the moment other than the thyroid, b-complex, vit-c, and a multi. And eating good quality food.

Sorry it was so long, but I want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

My legs are naturally big too. Hell, if I squat to pick up a penny they grow! LOL. (Although I want them bigger. ;) ) That being said, you're going to be burning up some muscle with all that cardio IMO. So yes, you could lay off squatting for awhile. Maybe do more shaping exercises like extensions, lunges, etc.

You may want to figure out what your daily total protein consumption is. If it's not enough, add in a protein shake or two.

I assume you are hypo? My sister is and has a hell of a time. I feel for you but commend you for working out. She's a lazy one and blames it on her thyroid disease.:D

Thanks

Yeah, I'm hypo. I feel for your sister, I know that it seems like we have to work twice as hard to get the same results that others get with half the work. It sucks. But God knows it could be worse.

I'll try to figure out what my protein intake is, all I know is that I'm doing the LA Weight Loss diet so I get 3 6-8oz portions a day of protein. Definently not enough to feed muscle.

I know what you mean about the penny, :) and if I were still trying to get the Jill Mills body, that'd be perfect, but now I'd just rather slim down and tone up. And I know that even if I could eventually get my ass into a size 7, my thighs would be stuck at a 12 or so.

Thanks for the input.

How old is your doctor? Armour Thyroid is kind of old school for the treatment of hypothyroidism.

Most docs and just about every Endocrinologist I know under the age of 60 uses T4 replacement (Synthroid/Levoxine/Levothyroid, etc).

but it'll be easy to find out, I'm his nurse.

lol! Well I didn't mean to diss your boss. He is the one with the medical degree - not me. However, there is some pretty good data to support T4 versus ground up pig thyroids (Armour).

Wow for being a female you sure do squat alot. Good luck getting back into the gym sounds like you are doing well at it though. MM
