Scott Stevenson's Be Your Own Bodybuilding Coach

I do think anything Stevenson puts out is going to be worth the price. I kinda put him, Jordan Peters, Meadows all in same category of the good people still left in bodybuiling which seems to few and far between

They all 3 come off as truly great and genuine people. Im waiting on my hardcopy of Scott's book it just shipped yesterday feeling like a child at crhistmas :D

Is it easy to read and understand or is there a lot of technical wording?

Scott is a genius. I'm sure the book is worth every penny.

Thanks, man.

I've included a coupled dozen infographics to summarize main topics. I've also stylized the book with lots of bolded terms for those who prefer to skim / scan text, rather than read every word.

The .pdf is extensively hyperlinked so you can move around from topic to topic (and hit the control <left arrow> to go back to where you were previously in the document.)

I tried to make it easy to dig into for specific topics as a "reference guide."

So I LOVE his fortitude training book, I was thinking the other day of getting this new book - but I held off since I don’t compete anymore and don’t have plans to anytime in the near future, and from the description it looked like it was for setting up your year in terms of prep for a contest, post contest and off-season?

But I was thinking of perhaps getting the book and using it like this: just pick a particular date and make it a “contest” date and then following the book/program through the year, doing prep before that date and then following what he has laid out for the year post contest and off season?

For those who have the book, does this seem do-able or is it just weird/crazy?

Or is the info alone just worth getting even if not competing?

I think you'll like it just for the info (as many say about the FT book), but what you're talking about is bodybuilding and just without a contest per se, and the book is about setting goals and creating structure to achieve them. :)

I’m definitely getting a hard copy. He was saying he was going to be selling them at the Olympia next week

I'll have a few there. (Been having an issue getting them to me, as the printers have taken a week longer than estimated for them to be sent out, meaning they've been shipped to someplace i'm NOT... LOL )

And the e-book is only $60. I believe he said he went with the premium binding and other materials for the hard copy, figuring people that like or want a hard copy will probably drag it back and forth from the gym so it needed to hold up to wear and tear....

Yes, I figured the hard cover would be banged around a bit. :)

Well worth the price IMO. It's 300+ pages of info. Other than Arnold's Encyclopedia of BBing and some "underground steroid books" there's nothing even close information wise out there.

Thanks, man. I wanted it to be both a resource for specific info (which is why it's so highly referenced), as well as template upon which to create some structure... (Basically the main things a coach does. :) )

I thought same thing when I saw price for stan efferding's vertical dirt, I think they know now a days with internet it's going to get shared for free so just try to get what they can out of it.

The printing and binding is much more than 50% of the cost of the book, actually. (This is partially b/c I'm a one man show here and it's print on demand, meaning they didn't print thousands of copies expecting it to be a "best seller.")

I think Stan's book is $100 for the ebook, but mine is $60 for the e-book. (A $100 ebook would cost a bit more to sell as a hard cover if someone were wanting to make the same profit on each book.)

It’s a bargain! The amount of info is unreal. No one in the world could write something that even comes close to this imo

Thanks, my man! :)

You know, I've gotta say, I had sticker shock when I first clicked the link. But you guys talked me into it.

I'm also thinking about how Arnold's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding was a big purchase when I was 16, but fuck, I wore that thing out. Definitely got my money's worth.

I hope what I said didn't come across as negative, I tried to edit it as soon as realized it might have and had waited too long so I followed up with compliment and endorsement.

No, didn't come across as negative. I just try to be as transparent as possible.

It's a complex economy as far as I can tell. You'll see books MUCH cheaper that have been put out by well known authors through a publisher who may print thousands and thousands of copies and can offer it at lower price (with lower print costs.)

Literally, if I sold my print book for $60 (I think it was), I'd make nothing on the sale. (When I first tried to calculate costs and proceeds, I put in some value like $50, where I'd have to PAY out $10 for each book - essentially buying them for folks.)

So, mainly I just wanted folks to know that the extra cost of the print book isn't because I'm trying to make more on that (as I certainly don't). I make even less on the kindle! LOL...

I was told (scolded) that I charge(d) too little for the FT book, which made folks undervalue it, so I was trying to not make that mistake. In reality, on a page x page basis, the .pdf for this book costs less than the Fortitude Training .pdf. :)

(Now I've probably been too transparent, eh?... LOL I'd rather err that direction anyway. :) )

Or pay 300+ a month for someone else to guide you. Not saying paying someone isn’t a good idea but when you really think about it, $100 is nothing if you’re in this game for the long haul

a book won’t give you a meal plan, or watch your physique and adjust what you’re eating.
I’d rather have a coach, and this is coming from someone that never had one. a 100$ book, that’s really expensive

Thanks, my man! :)

If we could have an overview of the content or few pages to read to evaluate what info I’m getting. I kinda like to flip through a book before buying ..

BM,

If I were you, I don't think I'd pick up the book, simply b/c you'd rather have a coach and the value of the info. doesn't seem to match the price tag. (Simply put, this book is for folks who would rather have a go at it themselves and enjoy digging in in that way.)

As Hilly mentioned, you can find info. on my site (dunno if board rules allow me to post the link directly here, TBH) as well as the amazon listing (search for "Be Your Own Bodybuilding Coach" and it comes right up).

On the Amazon listing, there's a "Look Inside" link (hovers above the image of the book cover) that will show you the full Table of Contents as well as several dozen pages of the book (in the Kindle Format, which I personally don't prefer over the less expensive .pdf on my site, but you get the idea...).

The book is a systematic and very detailed approach to the various phases of a bodybuilding season.

So no, the book doesn't give you a meal plan or watch your physique, it shows you how to create and make adjustments to a meal plan, and shows you how to monitor your own progress. Which, in my opinion is a bargain at $60.

It's not for everyone though. Some people prefer to be told what to do and just follow directions - that is certainly a benefit of having a coach.

Others enjoy the tinkering and the process and find a sense of fulfillment out of steering their own ship.

Just got my Hardcopy of Scott's book yesterday and i have to say damn its fine, so much info and such detail.

For the guys who have already purchased the book:

Is it pretty detailed on nutrition, how to set up your diet based on your goals?

Yes. Also provides a specific example of how a contest prep diet was modified week by week according to progress.

I'm visiting a friend across the country and he had ordered the hard copy book (for $100), and I've been reading through it this week, and holy shit, it's impressive!!

In my opinion, t's ABSOLUTELY worth every penny of the $100... It's like a 400 page text book of practical bodybuilding information...

I'm not made of money, but I'd pay $200 for this if that was the price.. As soon as I get back home, I'm ordering the hard copy of this book..

Super impressive, Scott, hell of a product!

Wife got me a copy today. I was hoping to get a hardback while we were at the Olympia. It’s packed with info. Very well laid out. We wanted to surprise me so she didn’t even use my coupon I had for it. I can see why it took so long to write the book. Thanks doc.

Ah, thanks, man! (Sorry I missed this post...)

I just wanted to get it out to as many folks as possible and while I guess there could have been a marketing allure with making it $200, I can only imagine the accusations that would come with that! LOL

(Next time, I may be able to bring the cost down, as the print on demand means the first $60 or so go to just manufacturing cost...)

You're welcome!

Sorry I missed you at the Olympia. I had hoped to have a kind of spot to sell the book from there, but no luck. I ended up selling one out of my van and another I toted on my motorcycle, in the parking lot behind the Orleans casino... LOL :)
