I take 100mg every night (sometimes 200mg on rare occasions) and it's been a life saver for me. After a decade of sleep issues this is the only drug I've found that consistently puts me into a restful sleep. It may have helped my anxiety and depression as well but I started taking wellbutrin at the same time so that may be attributed to that.

Does anyone here take Seroquel as a sleeping aid? If so, do you take Seroquel XR or regular Seroquel? What is the main difference between them?

What dosage do you take?

bro, bad news drug, i would stay far away from if possible.
very strong and fucks with brain chem.

in my opinion not something to fuck with for just a lil better rest.
much better choices out there.

I've read good things about trazodone. Problem is, I will need to go through a doctor. I may ask him for a prescription next time I go see him though.

I can get Seroquel through an online pharmacy which would be a lot easier, but I know this prescription can have some sides. I'm trying to see who has used it and what their thoughts are.

I have used ambien before though not much. I typically use natural sleep aids, but every once in a while, I have a harder time sleeping. I'd like to have something on hand for such nights, but definitely not to use on a regular basis.

i put traz in the same catagory...
first time i tried that i literally woke up wanting to murder someone. any one. lol not important.

do not take these nasty things lightly:lightbulb:

Seroquel is excellent if used sparingly. Like after a coke binge or something lol. But to use regularly, it's powerful stuff which will probably leave you feeling overly groggy during the day

dear lord the ideas just keep getting worse.
lol
stay up for a day or three smoke some mmj n hit the hay.
trust me. lol

My wife takes it at 7.00 and goes to bed at 9.00 so she'll be able think clearly the next am.

So....much...too....say.....don't.....know.....when.....to....start....

I like how "going through a doctor" is noted like its a big negative. They are kind of the specialists in this arena versus internet message boards...

Why would you want to take a powerful drug designed to dampen severe cases of psychosis for sleep when there are a plethora of other options with far less side effects? Simple Benadryl at 50-75mg before bed is faaaaar less riskier than others. Yes it may not work for everyone and you may need to combine it or replace it with something else. Ambien can be harsh with sleep walking and grogginess. Trazodone is a strong anti-depressant but can have some sedative effects. Perhaps sleep is being impaired by poor sleep habits in which case a better night time routine, tea, setting, etc can help. Maybe it is a racing mind/thoughts and Ativan or a similar Benzo would help. All these come with far less risk than an off script anti-psychotic. That said ALL these drugs come with dependance issues and will need increasing dosages or combinations over the years with increased risk/sides.

I get it. Everyone (or mostly everyone) here is using off script PEDs. We try to use them as safely as possible knowing they carry some risk. But they are also not (or rarely)available under medical supervision. Why exponentially increase the risks that come with the bodybuilding/PED lifestyle? Maybe a dr is slightly more inconvenient or expensive but better that than die in your sleep or develop a long term problem from self prescription.

I may have to try it myself. My sleep sucks. I wouldn't mind just using it 1-2x per week at most to get some deep rest.

Trazodone is an anti-depressant. I would look for another route.

Most doctors know nothing about neurotransmitters. I mean...there is only so much all of us know about them...we're still figuring everything out and there aren't many long term studies on most of these medications yet. Wait a few decades and we're going to see more bad side effects and lawsuits.

Seroquel at a low dose, i.e. 25mg seems to only give an antihistamine like effect. Its at higher doses, i.e. hundreds and hundreds of milligrams that you start to get the anti-psychotic / dopamine effects.

We don't know for sure. But most people agree that doses in the 25mg range for sleep are actually fairly safe. Pleny of doctors out there prescribe this drug and dosage for only sleep issues. And I can say with near certainty that its much less harmful than any benzo out there. Benzos are some of the nastiest drugs around and once again we're figuring this out more at this present time.

Benedryl gives an antihistamine affect as well. Its also linked to dementia now...

Basically pick your poison guys...If there is one thing I have learned its simply don't fucking take anything

Its a tough thing to accept because we're all programmed in this country to take something when in fact you're probably having sleep issues because of a lifestyle issue that needs to be addressed and fixed.

Did you know taking a benzo will mess with your sleep? It can prevent REM first off....And once the benzos are out of your system you're going to have what seems like a 10 fold increase with your sleep issues because GABA has down-regulated and glutamate has up-regulated in YOUR BRAIN.

There are already drugs in your head guys....Very important ones....And adding new drugs causes your brain to get rid of the drugs already in your head....then you stop taking the pill and there are no more drugs left in your head that will allow you to live a normal life, i.e. sleep properly.

I bet most of our sleep issues are drug related to begin with....If we never put anything into our bodies I bet you guys there would be allot less sleep issues around here....for real

Plenty of people have sleep issues, its very common and can take a lot of work to fix naturally but it is possible....

^ great points bro!:headbang:

i have had trouble with sleep my entire life.

in the past year i have stopped using all forms of est control.
a recent post from knight 9 had a great review of why not to use the various drugs for this.

sleep problems seem to be a common side effect of the various drugs we use for est control. never thought about this....

also im single for the first time in a loooong time.

i dont need anything to sleep anymore! lol

I took it once. A friend gave it to me. I could barely get up the next morning. I was super groggy. Never again.

Ah yes, the old PM standby belief... “doctors don’t know anything”. Much better to go by what someone in the gym, online or google told you.

May I ask what background your formal education is in?

I typically take a melatonin and ZMA. It helps me get a great nights sleep.

I'm not versed in it, but my brother is bipolar and was prescribed this years ago. It would help him fall asleep, but if he missed a dose he would get terrible sides.

A couple times he would stay at a friends, and forgot to bring it. He would be up ALL night and typically he would end up throwing up. Missing it for a day would throw him off for a couple days. Again I couldn't tell you what dose he was on or whether it was extended release but he hated the side effects. Naturally a VERY skinny kid that could eat pizza, junk, etc and never put on an ounce of fat and it put fat on him.

You don't ever go by just one persons information...Not even mine...And trusting everything one doctor says is probably one of the most foolish things anyone can do if their health is on the line. Always get multiple opinions, especially when its life or death. Remember doctors will always act like they know everything, rarely will they admit they don't know something or they're wrong because they are trained to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

None of us know much about neurotransmitters brother....We're at about the beginning stages in history just now starting to understand the basics....Not even the top neurologists can tell you everything there is to know about the brain (actually very little) and what exactly is going on when we introduce ourselves to a foreign chemical....And that is a fact. So it doesn't even matter what my credentials are to begin with since 99% of doctors are ignorant when it comes to this subject. Obviously I have read allot of books and done my research for years with multiple sources of information and cross-referencing. Even then you have to sort through a helluva lot of conflicting info, including information from doctors. I've been to many docs and always get different answers on my questions about neurotransmitters and allot of these are questions to psychiatrists.

Go to any doctor...Any psychiatrist...Any Pharmaceutical drug rep and you ask them about the drug they're pushing and ask them which neurotransmitters the drug effects. You will get answers on what the drug can help you with and or what the side effects are.....But you rarely will get any doctor describing which neurotransmitters that particular drug they're pushing will effect. You will also get a bunch of different answers with conflicting info if you continue to ask different doctors about the same drug.

I'm sure all of you know about the famous SSRI's, which have to do with serotonin obviously...But think of each neurotransmitter, i.e. serotonin as a string of music notes that's really really long. So within your brain's serotonin regions there are thousands of strands of different types of serotonin combinations all connected (making your own personalized serotonin system). And each individual serotonin related drug will hit all of those music note combos in the strand differently because everybody has a slightly different strand of "music notes" or very different. Think of each individual note as a feeling/emotion...Some can make you feel good, others can help you sleep, others can effect the way you perceive things, thus creating your own individual personality. These are all the "natural drugs" in our head that create who we are and how we act/feel etc. And they're already there...So implementing a new drug to your personalized serotonin system can change your personality, sometimes dramatically. Just like a street drug.

Go ahead and look up prozac. Its one of the oldest SSRI's on the market made in the 1970's...And nobody knows exactly what the hell its doing to the brain when ingested, besides the fact that is has to do something with serotonin. The list of drugs like this one is very very long lol

The subject of neurotransmitters and neurology in general is on par with how much we know about the universe. There are many many pharmaceutical drugs are on the market right now as we speak and we really don't know how many of them truly work or what they're doing....

I should really draw out a pictorial of the "music note" type strands of each neurotransmitter and how different patterns create different people, with different personalities that will react to the same drug differently.
