damn i feel like a failure! i was just thinking you know how some people look at you [even close friends and family] and they think you got where you are [bbing wise] only due to aas use, but forget how long or hard you have been doing this, i tell every one that i have been doing this for like 15- 17 years but today when i thought about it i remembered that i started boxing and playing soccer since 88, and lifting since 92 so i have been lifting for 18 years! and studying performance enhancement since 95. when i started lifting in 92 i was 140lbs now i am 215 down from 225 i am 5'6-5'7 body fat? 8%? so after realizing that i have been in this game for so long i think i should be a pro by now,but have not even done a national show. damn any comments. i hope i don't sound crazy or stupid.

got any pics bro 8% is pretty impressive at your height/weight

Is there a question in there somewhere?
Or just a rant :D

You know what bro, I'm actually feeling the exact same way as of lately. I've been lifting for around 10 years, powerlifting for a few year and started Bodybuilding about 4 years ago. I consider myself extremely knowledgeable and well rounded in all areas of PL, BB, or anything weight loss/weight gain. I've trained many men and woman in PL and BBing with great success. But like you, I take a look at myself lately and wonder why am I not higher on the charts. Case in point, I've started dieting at around 18% BF almost 5 monthes ago and am only around 12% now. Now 5 months is plenty of time for most Bodybuilders to get down to Show shape. Knowledge and dedication is absolutely not the problem at all, it's my body. I firmly believe that some have it, some never TRULY will. Genetics play a HUGE role in this sport. There isn't even ONE semi-athletic man or woman in my whole family tree!! I am actually really close to giving up Bodybuilding completely and going back to power lifting.. or possibly hanging everything up for good. I've seen guys that barely train and eat like complete shit, and party all week that get HUGE by just looking at a gym. But a guy with tons and tons of knowledge and out of this world dedication can barely build a decent body for the life of him?? Sure I'm "huge" to most people... but not to me! Not for a man of my knowledge and dedication. Not for a man thats been in the game this long and has dedicated every minute of life to this sport since he was a child.

I did my first few sets of arm curls when I was 15... 1967. I've been big and strong; still am, all things considered. I've always worked hard... I've accumulated some trophies over the years, but have never been competitive at like a national or certainly pro level.
It's a drag sometimes to see people do less and acheive more, but I can't let it get me discouraged for long at a time. I'm obsessed with staying as big as I can and as strong as I can for as long as I can, regardless of how I stack up against anyone else, or what I feel I should have accomplished with the dues I've paid.
None of that stuff matters. Tomorrow is back day, and I'll go in and hit it hard just like I have a thousand times before..

in my country, people still think than protein supps are same as AAS...so you get to where you are becouse of them ;)

But then I em wondering...what the f*ck little boys and females in gym that takes protein and bunch of those supps, why are they small ;)

you do not want to hear some statements...
protein just blow and stuffed you out, and then you loose everything...
arnold and other BB are using asteroids ;)

and many more silly statemens...

and all our BB and atlets are allwais "NATURAL", if they have ben tested for doping-positive, they claim that they use only whey, BCAA and glutamin...yeah right ;)

look at it this way

id rather be into alot of hobbies and be happy knowing that im better than most, than be totally consumed and only good at one thing.

if you have it , you have it! you wont find yourself spending ten years to get nowhere close to the spotlight. you dont have to give up bb though. give yourself props for what u have accomplished and always be on the look out for new things that intrest you and it will open up more doors and opportunities.

eventually you will find that you are more well rounded than most wich to me is a great spotlight to be in.

you seem like your ready for the next step look for a npc national Qualifier 16 weeks out from now do that show get nationally ranked and then move on from there you just have to jump into it or you will stay were you are.

your lean and big im at about the same size height, weight, at least most of the year when im not in comp mood im 10 weeks out at 6.8% you can do the same thing you just need a goal like getting nationally ranked.

then move on from there. as for the pro thing it would be nice but if you want to be a pro you have to go well beyond what most of us are willing to do. it is no longer a hobby but an addiction at that point. not a bad one but i think everything comes second to that one goal. its not years of training that make a pro but drive. imo so dont feel bad at all you are way a head of the rest of the people in the world.

Well, now you have a ton of experience and knowledge and it sounds like you've made great progress.

Can I ask...Looking back, could you have done anything differently that would have made a huge impact in where you are today?

Look at your life as a whole and you may see it in a different light. You look great, do what you love and have a life. That's great.

Otherwise, we can just keep working, listen to those who are better than us (first step is to admit it) and apply their rules adjusted to our own abilities.

i want to give you all a sincere thanks! looking back diet and mental attitude could have should have been much better!

being a pro isn't about how long you've trained or been on gear.

I've been training for years and could take all the gear in the world, and I will never be qualified to even hand a pro a towel backstage...lol.

I say compete if that's what drives you, but remember the reasons you got into this game in the first place; primarily because you enjoy it and it's rewards (mentally, physically, etc)...don't forget that, or you will drive yourself crazy.

And I agree, 8% bf at your height and weight sounds pretty impressive...I say go for it and get on stage.

Mexbeast,

Hey bro..I have been doing this for 20 years now..and I have competed at nationals shows (and got my ass handed to me) and I have won NQ shows all over the midwest, and cali, fl...But my genetics really are only good enough to compete at a Jr.National level and maybe get a top 10 (have done it before)...I just never ever been able to get that National level size no matter what I did...(bulked to 280lbs, stayed leaned, tons of gear, trained all styles, ect)...

I'd say get on stage and see what you can do..You never know where you place if you just dont get on the stage and see...You never know, you might be better than you think...and if not, so what...There is no loss in trying...Just remember that you did your best and thats what counts the most...best of luck

man i feel the same way. Been on and off (most on) gear for 10 years and I would KILL for your stats. I am only 5'10 228 with 15% bf easy...

do a national qualifier if you want to, or dont. It doesnt really matter. You have done everything in your power in your bodybuilding career to build the best physique your genetics will allow. That amount of work and dedication for that long period of time is something to be proud of. Most people cant stick with a 4 week crash diet from an infomercial. Dont judge your accomplishments against a pro. judge them against you.

again i want to thank u all so much for the kind and wise words! CRIS i wish you a speedy recovery may you get better by the minute!
