Shin Splints

Went hiking in the mountains the yesterday and woke up with shin splints. Fuck they hurt. Anyone else deal with them?

Get you some of them Brooks shoes! I personally think they ugly as all hell, but they work for this issue!!!!!!

Sure hurts bad. I used to get it early in the year when at college. Wasn't used to walking so much, had to around campus. Eventually it gets better. Next time you go, don't go as far.

The pain for me was severe too. Sucked because I HAD to continue walking to class. I was able to continue getting to class on time by walking much slower. I had to leave for class earlier to compensate. So when you must walk now, go slow and let it heal.

I work in Physical Therapy and they are pretty common. Try massaging or getting a massage on your Tibialis Anterior. Also, compression socks work great to help the pain go away and to alleviate the shin splints. Cage99 is also right about the shoes. Those shoes are great to avoid shin splints.

Get some orthodic insoles. A podiatrist can make them custom with your foot mold or you can get generic on Amazon. I have flat feet so I suffer from shin splints as well.

I only get them when i increase my walking/running intensity and duration too fast. Once my body conditions, I never get them. That has been my experience. Thats why I always got them when college first started in August. By mid September or earlier it was gone.

any time I get a new pair of shoes, I buy a pair of Superfeet insoles. they're pricey, but worth it to not be in agony. a visit with a PT, the hypothesis is that my tibialis is overdeveloped. if I don't have the right type of foot support and need to make an upward climb, I'm gonna be crying by the time I get to the top. better support and simply avoiding some things that involved steep inclines were the only things that really gave me any relief
