Shoulder pain from squatting

OK, Last week, I was squatting with 495 (not deep enough, but not the point) I started moving the weight around then I rolled my shoulder a little to get a better placement of the weight on them.

I felt a little pain when I was done, then I did the rest of my squats and just had a little pain, the next day it still hurt.

It's been 8 days and the pain is still there. It goes away when I warm up, but it's definately still there.

Any advice?

Safety Squat Bar

I'm no sure what kind of advice you are looking for, but I had the same problem and bought a safety squat bar from elite fitness. It's not cheap, but it takes your shoulders out of the squatting equation. One of mantra rays may also help (they are cheap) Or you could join my gym and just do curls in the squat rack.

Ha, thaza good one. But I don't mind the pain at all. I welcome it, it's just that I want to know if you think that I hurt something, this particular time.

It's not so bad, but I can definately feel it and I think that maybe it should have gone away. I just don't like anything like towels, or weird bars they have them at my gym.

I worried if I may have done some damage with that kind of weight.

Thanks.

DB, this is quite common when squat poundages are high. Alot of powerlifters complain of shoulder pain from squating. I never really understood it until my squat went over 350. Try opening up your hands. What I mean is, put your hands as close to the collars as humanly possible while still maintaining the "shelf" (you know, the shelf your traps make?). Also, try gripping it while they are out there and more or less try to ben the bar over your back. Obviously you won't (kudos if you do though....) but it will help.

...

I had a sharp pain (felt like a tear you could say) in my AC joint while squatting with 545/565 on my way up on the 3rd rep a few months ago. It was really bad for awhile and I would still feel it in other lifts, even though I had no loss of power. But squatting became a big problem, every time there was over 405 on the bar the AC joint would be screaming.

Problem solved by gripping wide by the collars exactly the way Gyno described. I have no pain at all. I think gripping close with alot of weight on your back is a recipe for disaster. Most powerlifters I have seen grip very wide, must be something to it.

Thanks Gyno and BN, this is a picture of my grip, It is pretty close and that's that I widened it a bit, because someone else in the gym told me the same thing.

entirely to close brother. Obviously it's worked thus far, but now that you are approaching "forklift" rather than squatter you have to adjust some things accordingly.

Thanks a lot bro, I will start working on it beginning next leg workout on Tuesday.

also, you may want to, no...definately should reconsider the belt your using. Just like your grip, I'm sure it's been fine thus far, but I would really look into getting a good inzer belt thats the same width all the way around. 3mm or so.

I will do that also, but what does that help with? I do notice that the powerlifters do use that type of belt, and I tried it before, is it comfort, or is there another reason for it?

Thanks again, these are good suggestions.

DB, its overall just a better belt. Even distribution of intra-abdominal pressure, sturdier, 1 should last you FOREVER. Just do your research on how to use them. improper usage will do more harm than good, actually.

You dont have to automatically change grip. It seems like you just tweaked your supraspinatus and a little ART, graston, etc. would loosen that up.

If a change in grip is in order, I suggest you evaluate your shoulder stress in general.

Maybe you're right, what I did was move the weight once it was set. IOW, if I had it to do over, I would have re-racked the weight to get a better grip not bounce it around once it was on my shoulders, that's what caused whatever I have, but it gets a little better every day.

Thanks for the input.
