Ill say first of all, im 58 and lifting for 30 plus years. was doing fairly well. geared up with slin and gh ...About 6 years ago my left shoulder started making popping noises at certain times when lifting my arm certain ways. I let it go. About 2 months ago ,under alot of stress ,did chest and seated incline press, thats when the clicking and popping started in the right shoulder now. I dont really have pain but im concerned iif the clicking and popping should be addressed .Im doing stretches as per my other post on shoulder tips . Im seeing different videos saying popping is a concern while some r saying its not. What have u guys found out and if so what remedies have u done ? Much appreciated.

Yeah, that's probably not good. If it's just pops and clicks, without pain may not be problematic. There's a recent thread on shoulder stretching (maybe your thread), Dante had some good techniques using a broomstick or bands, we mentioned ART, and ultimately, like myself, surgery. If it becomes painful, I'd refer you to an orthopedic surgeon. They can give you two new shoulders* like they did me. Refurbished yeah, but still in good working order.

OTH

*upon completion post-op physical therapy

thanks for the info.

Ive been doing that shoulder hang that Joe Rogan talks about on his podcast lately . Seems to be making a positive diff so far
dead hangs are great, just make sure to engage your lower traps and hang off your musculature if you have a recent history of shoulder problems. Passively hanging off the ligaments/tendons (shoulders relaxed in hang up near your ears with gravity dropping your body down) is an advanced move and should be reserved for healthy shoulders only.

It will take some time to become comfortable in the position of the active hang but will pay you dividends in shoulder health to work up to cumulative 2-3 minutes/day (divided up any way that is comfortable e.g. in 20-30 second sets).

Results for people varies using this hanging technique but while effective as @matsusays here for some individuals, would be better to solve the problem before you need scoped and rinsed. That would be ideal. The shoulder rotator is not a socket like a hip. The cuff is more of a caldera or soupbowl-like area and I'm sorry but hanging on those tendons, ligaments and cartilage with no muscular support, pulling your humerus out of the cuff sounds like bad medicine to me. But that's just my opinion based on my problems which were directly FROM hanging. Not in a gym but on a three foot ceiling on a rock face (repeatedly pulling the humerus out of the cuff vs weight training impaction/impingement into the cuff).

Prognosis is very positive and quite repairable given your age. I'd go for it. 1) Have a physical therapist examine the shoulder(s) and 2) following a rehabilitative therapy regimen and 3) as last resort, just have them blast the calcified areas out and rinsed and repair the shoulder arthroscopically.

I'd find a good sports doctor, shoulder specialist, and maybe pt. Could be a small labrum tear I have one never needed surgery. I'd also be very careful about doing any extreme should stretches rely on your pt who evaluates your shoulder when it comes to that.

Agree with this.

It means youre not going heavy and wide enough on barbell bench. Try closing your eyes and holding your breath for the first 3-5 reps of each set.

Trapped tendon/impingement maybe. Such a bizarre "joint" (if you can call it one) that it could be one of many issues).
Have had so many shoulder issues for 30+ years now, I just try to self heal and work around it. Will get ithem fixed one day Im sure.

Tough to say without seeing the issue in person. My left one does that at the front delt insertion. The tendon becomes inflammed. The way to deal with it for me is go light and stretch and some yoga. Some anti-inflammatories in moderation. Eventually it resolves. I'm a similar age as you. Stretching and yoga may stimulate growth factors in the joint, which is helpful. Massage also helps a lot. Luckily I have a wife that does that for me on the regular of course with my reciprocation.

I came here to say something similar. Always my left shoulder. Usually starts at the front delt insertion. If I keep pushing it, it becomes full blown tendonitis or the shoulder feels unstable. Not good. It's become the norm for me to do mobility work every shoulder workout. Since I started doing that it's gotten better.

My advice no matter where it's happening is, if it hurts in a painful way then lay off it. It's much better to miss a workout or two and stretch it out than it is to injure yourself.

Look into what exercises exacerbate the issue and avoid those. Get a stretching and mobility plan and stick to it. Avoid anything that causes pain.

Yea ,its weird how it happened. The left shoulder had a little bit of popping and now the right side has a fair bit . It also could be my structure is out of whack or alignment. I do have a tightness in the back spine area. Yep. 30 years with no noise from that shoulder and all of a sudden after that workout. Go figure how these things happen. I have started doing wobenzyme and soon serrapeptase and doing more infra red sauna..It could be a shoulder muscle out of balance because my inner delts closer to pec is much more developed than the outer delts. Maybe i should try nd strenthen the rear and side delts. One thing i hate is its a psychological distraction. Ahh. to be totally pain free again would be nice.

Yea, i hear ya. Pain is sign to back off . Is there anyone u follow for mobility other than the hanging and what super d mentions and the broomstick. I have looked at many chiropractors videos but i guess i dont even know what part of the shoulder i am even dealing with. I guess i have to get an assessment from chiro or PT.

I followed Eugene Teo's (John Meadows Buddy) recommendations on youtube. I cant find the exact video but it has a bunch of very good information on external rotation and shoulder impingements. The information might actually broken up in two or three videos but it's well worth your time to look into it. John meadows has relevant information as well.

It's a bit funny because he's a tea drinking, chill, feng shui sort of a guy and not intense in the slightest but he's a wealth of knowledge. He definitely helped me out.
