So a lot of us seem to have problems falling asleep, take some ZMA or Melatonin are usually prescribed for this problem. My problem is even if I take one or the other I still have the problem of getting comfortable in bed. I think having broad shoulders may be the reason for this. I can not sleep on my side or back, I always end up falling asleep on my stomach after a lot of tossing and turning. Recently I purchased a tempurpedic mattress hoping this would help me find that comfortable position. With the mattress I also bought the pillows. Though extremely comfortable when laying down, I still can't find that sweet spot. I sleep in a king size bed by myself (most nights :D) and I stay sleep on one side of the bed. I wake up the most awkward postitions sometimes and wake up with pumps in my shoulders and traps.

For you bigger guys, is this a common problem? Do you guys have some tricks I don't know about to help me get comfortable?

bump this, I have an extra firm mattress and feel like I sleep light, if I use a less firm mattress when I wake I'm hurtn. Use trazadone and benadryl sometimes but when I wake up I feel like a zombie for 2-3 hours.

man i took trazadone for like a year, just never made me feel right or like i got a real deep sleep..

I have similar problems too. I tend to get a bit of sleep apnea if I lay on my back. I find that when i am holding extra water it gets worse. So to combat this I try my best to sleep on my sides, however I also have shoulder problems which get irritated occaisionally because of this. I have found that i get the best sleep the most often when I use a thicker pillow and sleep on my sides. The thicker the pillow the less pressure/ weight it puts on the bottom shoulder. It can be very frustrating at times.

I have a lot of problems with apnea sleeping on my back. When I sleep on my sides, my arms fall asleep and I wake up and have to roll over to the other side. I can't sleep on my stomach either.

I did an experiment where I made a make shift bed. This probably sounds really weird but I basically had two matresses. One was offset back about a foot or so. Then I used a bunch of pillows to get the pillows up to the same level as the top matress. This created a slot or trench for my shoulder and arm to fit into. It totally stopped my arm from falling to sleep and I didn't hav to roll around any more.

It may be hard to picture this but basically created a nonpressure area for my arm and shoulder to rest in. Wish I wouldve taken a picture of the setup, but I had to take it all down because it didn't work out well with my gal in bed with me and I'd rather sleep with her than alone in another room.

I thought about modifying one side of my king size bed, but I didn't want to ruin a $1400 matress.

Kind of sucks having shoulders so much wider than my waist, sometimes my back gets tweaked for the same reason.

Having a sleep number bed was really nice, but unfortunately my ex took that bed when we broke up, and didn't have the cash to buy a new ne at the time.

Some nights are good some not. The only sleep med I will take is tylenol pm. The other stuff can give bad hangovers etc. To busy to have hangovers.....but everyone is different.

My sleep apnea doc said its best to sleep on your left side with your head elevated.

Same here, can't sleep on my back or front, but I have found that two pillows on my side is perfect, i was wondering about you bigger guys and how hard it must be to get a good nights sleep, I am not all that big/wide but my shoulders really get in the way, and I have a great mattress and a memory foam pad on top and it's really nice but I still need two pillows.

It is not good for your back and your cervical spine to sleep on your stomache.
Best for your backbone is to sleep on your back but not for my sleep apnea.
So I sleep mostly on my side with a pillow between my knees an a modified slatted frame that my shoulder can dip deeper.

wouldnt it be bad for shoulders to sleep on your side? especially if you put your under arm up under the pillow that is below your head?

Try an orthopedic pillow mine is shaped like a peanut almost and i just throw another regular pillow under it to completely fill in the gap from my neck to shoulder. Also put a pillow between your legs to take stress off your lower back ;). Another thing is to go to a chiropracter to keep your spine aligned properly that can really kill your sleep if it's not.

i sleep on left side and use my lat as a pillow..lol sad but true only way i can sleep through the night

I got frustrated two weeks ago and even though my mattress was fine, I bought a new firm mattress without the "European Pillow Top" and without the "Comfort Foam". Hip and shoulders much improved. I wish I had gotten extra firm, but I do have my gf comfort to consider as well.

i have tried everything...if i sleep on my back either the apnea will wake my wife or the snoring will ( wakes me as well ).
I take 2 down pillows and fold em and sleep on my side. through trial and error this works for me.

I deal with just about every sleep problem that exists -- insomnia, sleep paralysis, waking up every hour, circadian rhythm disorder, etc. etc. etc. Been that way since I was a little kid, and seem to have inherited the problem from my mom. Both my dad and my sister are the most incredible sleepers I've ever seen (if they have 5 minutes to spare, they can literally take a nap within that amount of time at any given time of day), yet me and my mom have bad sleeping problems.

When I actually do get to sleep, I usually actually position the pillow lengthwise parallel to my body (as opposed to the normal perpendicular), and then sleep on my side with the pillow under my head and shoulders. I usually switch which side I'm sleeping on every hour or so, though.

Sleeping pills are known to make the problem a lot worse, so I avoid them.

i can't sleep on my front because it hurts my back. i can't sleep on my back because i wake up my girl all the time. she says it sounds like i stop breathing for 20-30 seconds, then i will gasp for air. she always tells me to sleep on my side cause it doesn't happen then.
it's so much more comfortable sleeping on my back compaired to sleeping on my side.

i guess that this is some form of sleep aptnea???? i don't know????

The thing is, is that this never happened to me in the past. Only since i've been on the juice. I guess putting on the extra weight caused it???? again, i don't know????
