Smith Machine For Close Stance Squatting (Quad Sweep)?

Any of you guys use it just to get that real close stance to really focus on your sweep?

I know smith is a bad machine for a feq reasons, but what say the crowd?

I don't understand where the idea that the Smith is a bad machine came from. What a stupid myth. I do close stance for sweep and I've seen Dallas McCarver do something similar. Works well, it's just I prefer the V-Squat more as of late.

Sent from my LG-H918 using Professional Muscle mobile app

Smith machine is like anything else, it's great tool when used properly and for the right applications.

I love the smith machine. I use it for tons of stuff

I love the smith for squats, takes a while to get the feet potition right, hack Machine is my favourite of recent

how close of a stance are you talking...???

the closer your feet will destroy teardrop....

i found the best stance for sweep is just inside
shoulder width....i picture putting my feet at armpit
width, then go just inside of that...toes pointed out slightly..

ive done nothing BUT smith squats for about 6 years now.

but the smith machine is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!!!

I like banded reverse hack squats, about shoulder width placement

I usually incorporate smith close stance similar to what Tenny described but follow it up with low close stance flat presses. Burn baby burn!

FINALLY! A forum where members see the benefit of the smith and don't lump it up to a "piece of junk" just because they read it sucks on some forum lol.

That being said, I love smith squats as a mid session movement or to end a brutal leg session. You can really incorporate a bunch of intensity techniques with a smith.

I love the smith machine but i just cant seem to squat there without putting alot of pressure on my lower back.. Where are you guys placing your feet if i might ask?

feet in front of the bar....almost pushing back into the smith...

to me....almost feels like a hack squat.....i lock my back
into place, instead of using it to "Push"..or "cheat"

really isolates the quads if you can master it...

My favorite quad movement is reverse banded front squats. Hammers em hard, feels good on the knees and lower back. Then I follow those with some leg presses with feet low and close together on the platform. Drive hard through the heels and pull the toes up towards yourself at the top to really flex the quads hard!

Yes... guys like me w low back issues can do them like that too bc the back is straight up and down it doesnt hurt me like a regular squat...

i also like setting up the pins at the low point.... it lets me bomb away without fear of getting tomato canned lol...

whenever i read up on foot position, 8 outa 10 times they say wide stance for teardrop. either it works or there's no difference either way if the exact opposite can be true.

Used to exclusively squat close stance on Smith machine. Quads were Yuugge. Like Platz jr./Branch status.

I really like the Smith machine for lunges, they can be brutal there.

Its funny bc today is leg day, if I make it, ive been ill, and thinking of trying these after reading a Jay Cutler 2009 magazine. Its finding what you feel best. Jay Cutler used to mention them in q and a's a lot and promote them. Tenny obviously knows what works for him, Tenny, you dont do leg extensions, leg press or hacks, or barbell squats, just smith squats for past six years?

Ive got good legs and used to do close stance squats, now Im older (35) just normal stance squats, or close stance leg press, close stance hacks.

ill do a small little prexhaust with extensions
then go straight to smith squats....4 or 5 sets. plateplateplateplate 10 reps
then do lunges on the smith also....4 or 5 sets. plate 10 reps per side
then maybe a leg press for 4 sets of 25...with about 6 or 700.
standing calf raises with as much as the machine will hold.
