They have a section on livestrong.com called 'the daily plate'...

Anyhow, I've been using it to track the foods I eat its pretty handy.

Well my sodium is almost 5000mg a day.. how bad is this if I'm trying to tone up or hell just in general? I am drinking about a gallon of water a day too.

The actual sodium need for sport man varies from person to person, but a range of 1800 to 2500 mg per day is considered to be healthy daily dose.

Like fluid requirements, daily sodium needs can vary greatly among athletes. Some athletes have a greater sodium need because they sweat more. The sodium needs amount that is recommended is dependent on amount of sweat produced.

For example, if you sweat about 1 liters per hour, your sodium losses per liter is about 750mg, so if you train for 2 hours you lose 1500mg of sodium, if you train 3 hours than you lose is 2250mg.

The answer to your question 5000mg sodium is a little to high, but long as you have no high blood pressure and you drink lots of water than you should be OK.

Thanks for the insight... very helpful. I sweat pretty good so maybe I'll lower the sodium a bit and continue to drink water.

Sodium is one of the main electrolytes in the human body. Sodium is the main cation(positively changed electrolyte) outside the cells. Sodium, potassium and chloride are the three main electrolytes, without of this 3 electrolytes the whole electrochemical machine of human body would stop working in seconds.
 
Wow good info. Emeric...totally was wondering that a bit too since I really never pay attention to sodium because I figured if I am healthy I would be fine, but good info. to know. Thanks.
 
Just don't want to be holding too much water... and 5000mg just seemed high.

And that number was based on a day were I watching my food intake.

Protein and milk are bloated with sodium.

I always thought that Sodium was bad until I started to talk to Pros and it isn't that Bad as long as you keep it to a Heathy Min.

If your drinking enough water, you can consumme ALOT of sodium without Retaining Water.
