Some advice for the wife

My wife is mid 40s and is going away with some friends mid May and is currently very down on herself as she is a good 15lb at least over what she would like to be. She hasn’t been consistent in exercise or eating and she knows it and she was thinking about ozempic or munjaro which I’ve told her is a mistake.
My thinking for her was a low carb 2-3 meal eating plan which I feel if nothing else will help her with water weight and then 3-4 full bodyweight circuit type sessions per week which need to be short as she doesn’t have much free time.

I’d rather she not think about peptides etc as I need to get her mindset locked in and away from a quick fix approach to a,lifestyle change.
Any tips or advice.

Thanks

Has she successfully followed a fat loss diet in the past? Or would this be something completely new to her? (does she have the personality / mindset to really make a lifestyle change? Many do not).
What is her current weight? Would she follow a macro-based plan? (like "150g protein, 100g carbs, 50g fat per day")

My wife hit a wall with training and diet, mid 40s also. She started to get discouraged so we went on Reta. The results happened quickly and she got motivated again. Finally the work in the gym was paying off and Reta reset her eating habits and mindset.

She’s been off Reta for 2 months now but the training and diet continue. She’s looks even better than when she was on Reta. My point is, your wife will most likely continue to fail isn’t she doesn’t get a kick in the ass so to speak. Put her on Reta brother, there’s countless guys on here who’s wives and girlfriends took it and completely changed their lifestyle.

Reta is a tool, use it.

She did keto a number of years ago and it worked well for her. Since then she has fallen off the wagon and can very easily do so again after a few days. She knows she needs a lifestyle change but a bad day at work or lack of prepped food and she’s eating rubbish or grabbing a glass of wine.
If she has to count calories and weigh stuff then I think she will quickly fold. This is why my thinking is if she can see a piece of steak palm sized or two chicken thighs etc she will stick with this easier.
Thanks for your question appreciate it and any advice next steps.
I was thinking something as simple as

Meal 1 around 11am
2 eggs
1 rasher of bacon
Slice of avocado

Meal 2
Snack based
Two tablespoons of cottage cheese
Some sardines
Small salad

Meal 3
6oz steak or chicken thighs or salmon
Greens
Yoghurt with some Berries

I have to say I don’t know a lot about it so will definitely look into it. She does need to make this part of a lifestyle again. She will go great guns on the peloton for a month but not see results and get very discouraged and then annoyed when I say she needs to change her eating more then her cardio.

No hate, don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m not sure this is a good question for a bodybuilding forum, where many people are passionate about long-term progress. Asking for a “super diet” or some “magic drug” just to lose a few kilos, no matter the cost, doesn’t really make sense.

Maybe your wife should start thinking about this earlier, like a year in advance, if she wants to lose 7 kg. Even better, focus on changing lifestyle and building healthier habits. Then she will look better and feel better all year, not just for one trip with friends.

Because doing something extreme just for a short time doesn’t change reality. What’s the point of trying to fake it for a moment? No hate, I’m just being honest.

No I completely agree and have said it’s lifestyle long term change that’s needed but unfortunately that’s advice after the horse has bolted. I’m hoping an initial jolt and actually seeing some progress maybe the kick she needs to carry it on.

I agree with the members who are advising Reta. I understand it can be viewed as a “quick fix”, but being in her 40’s, her metabolism likely isn’t what it once was, due to any number of factors. Reta is good tool and if she actually see’s physical progress, it may become the motivating factor she needs. Just my two cents.

Meal service, Pre packaged meals , whatever you wanna call it.

I’ve seen it make a difference for women.

They’ll do for others but slack off when they should do for themselves. If there’s a microwaveable meal there that doesn’t taste like garbage they’re all over it vs making any amount of food from scratch

Know a girl who might take one Reta or Tirz shot every 3 weeks - small starting dose.

But it definitely helped her get over the hump and get more disciplined... I would do the same.

So I am going to go in a different direction. Maybe have her hormones checked out. Perimenopause and menopause really fucks women up. Starting hormone replacement for this early is important because to estrogen receptors active.

Agree with the poster above re: blood work
I think this diet looks reasonable for some fast fat loss, not sustainable long term, but will probably her get to where she wants to be for May, then you guys can reassess
And a GLP like Reta at a small dose would probably be a useful adjunct

** starting hormone replacement early is important to keep estrogen receptors active ***

That was bad.

OP let me ask you this will her friends even be able to tell she is 15 lbs or whatever weight you said over weight?

A quick fix is going to make things worse not to judge but is sounds like she is not into working out and staying in good shape. Let’s face it peloton use is not staying in shape is more for health reasons.

If she uses Reta to loose some weight for her friends and after that she goes back to her normal habits she will gain back the weight and then some. Then she will really be down.

I say just have her eat clean from now to then and whatever come out of it to take it and run with it and have fun with the friends and not worry about them judging her for her weight.

If indeed they are good true friends they won’t care if she has gained a few pounds or not. And they won’t judge her never the less make her feel bad by saying you gain some weight girl.

Hope you understand the point I’m try to get across. I which you both the best. And tell her to just go have fun life is too short to worry about impressing other people brother

A couple things Id say off the bat not including the peptides stuff people are mentioning.

1. Be mindful of movement. You can do some things like parking at the back of parking lots and walking farther. Taking stairs etc. Also, taking dedicated walks during the day. You can do 2 a day morning and evening, or you can do the "10 walks" that Stan Efferding sort of popularize. You take a brisk 10 minute walk very shortly after a meal. It is an easy way to get 3 10 minute walks a day assuming you eat 3 meals a day. The walks also help with digestion, nutrient partitioning, and also prevents further snacking if a meal wasn't entirely satiating or if eating smaller portions where you might be inclined to hit the pantry for "a little more". Just getting in those extra steps per day can not only be an enjoyable activity, but the extra NEAT adds up.

2. Have a discussion about meals / meal planning. As you know, all you need is a deficit, it doesn't really matter how you create it. Low carb is an option, but there are many other options. If she is a carb lover, cutting that macro down might be hard to adhere. She might do much better by lowering fats, or at least shifting macros around do accomodate meals that can keep her in a deficit, that she will still enjoy. Throwing a scale at her and teaching her to militantly track macros might be overwhelming, but you can show her the diabetic exchange, and to pair foods, portions size compared to respective calorie loads, and how to swap foods in an out that roughly the same macros / and cals. Planning meals ahead of time makes it easy to stay consistent, where as winging it can lead to derailing from the plan.

Just simply getting NEAT up through increased movement, and calories down a bit by better planning, and understanding of nutrition are a double whammy for creating a deficit, and will do wonders without being overwhelming or a shock to the system type of deal.

Obviously if she is dead set on this goal, you can elevate things by adding in more zone 2 cardio. I assuming you know all of these things, and I am not insulting your intelligence by writing any of this out, but trying to help, and maybe look at it through the lens of not overwhelming her.

Mine cycles on an off Semaglutide and loves it. She’ll titrate from .25mg up to 2mg over the course of a year. She’ll then take several months off while continuing to weight lift and walking.

My wife is a foodie and the GLP’s really help keep her in check. Dieting has become really effortless for her now.

make things as easy as possible.

i have seen great success with simple things like just being sure to get some good walks in during the week.
limited food times. call it what you want but get 14 +hrs no calories, just water and coffee.
when its time to eat focus on protein first then veg then carb. this alone will get most going in the right direction. just tighten things up as you go so the progression is not stressful or hard.
