Wow, that is one of the hardest state level SHW classes I've seen. You would have been easy top 3 mid Atlantic region.

Yeah...typically a SHW class at that level would be 2-3 guys or a bunch of guys that should have dieted harder to make Heavies.

When I looked at those guys backstage, I thought to myself "I guess the flying saucers have landed, because we're clearly from different planets!"

Actually, that's the camera angle & I was standing just a bit forward of the tape (Phil Heath!)...the dark-haired guy just to right of center is 6'6"!!!

Only the second time I've ever competed and not been the tallest guy in the show!

1. Same as everyone, I guess. I squat ass to ankles, leg press, front squat, Bulgarian split squats, hack squats.

2. Again, same as everyone. Rack pulls, chins, DB/BB rows, pulldowns, cable rows.

At this point, I don't think there are any secrets or "special exercises". On back, keep the lower back tight, learn to FEEL the back doing the work, get the elbows back like you're trying to touch them together behind you, and SQUEEZE.

For legs, the whole "I can't squat deep" thing is a bucket of shit. I have yet to see ANYONE that methodically improves their flexibility (hard work that most people are too damn lazy to do) that can't do squats and leg presses through a full range of motion.

Sure, there are varying degrees of success, although I can't squat as heavy as shorter guys my height, I put my squats later in the workout, where the 'weight' isn't as important. But I do them consistently and with the most effort possible.
