Very clever! I remember recently hearing a feature on NPR about LA gangs. They said that some of these guys are very, very smart at running their organizations. On par with corporate CEO's. Not like that dumb criminal that people usually think of.

They don't have to. The pigeons were nested on the roof. Pigeons can return back to their nest from great distances. Since they don't check anyone leaving a prison, only entering, you just walk out with a pigeon in your jacket. Go home, load her up, and release her. She'll just fly home to you!

Hence, "homing pigeon".

The pigeons instinctively return back to their nest. If you put that nest on top of a prison, well you could drive a hundred miles and the pigeon will return home. They used these during the war to send messages to people behind enemy lines.

My wife was a correction officer for 10 years, before she changed careers. She can tell you some ingenious ways these guys scheme. By the way Steak, These are true statistics, out of the world population 5% of the people are in prison. Out of the world's prisoners, 25% are in the good old USA. One thing I do admire about this story, is that they aren't doing it the tradional way to smuggle, they shove it up their ass!
