Not sure what to make of this but here goes...

I'm a highly experimental person when it comes to nutrition. If there's a diet, I have tried it. So, I got my hands on one of those "caveman nutrition" books by Loren Cordain called "The Paleo Diet" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_1/102-0474023-1929738?v=glance&s=books), awhile back and basically read the thing in a couple days. Sounded like good advice, but couldn't imagine giving up my rice cooker and not having potatoes and oatmeal. So I shelved the book.

Fast forward to today. As of Monday, I had a braniac idea that I wanted to add more lower GI fruit into my diet as of monday and had replaced half my total carbs with with those found in the fruit. Same level of carbs and everything. Here's the kicker: since starting on this way of eating, I've noticed a drop in fat and couple extra veins poking out of the arms more than usual.

So here's my question: anyone else notice this as well? Anyone do a straight up paleo diet (lean meat, smart fats, veggies and fruit as the main carbs) and have similar results. I'm hesistant to remove my rice and morning oatmeal, but I have to say I'm intrigued by the thought of going full bore and seeing what happens.

Will I shrivel up? Or will I just cut up? What are your thoughts?

isn't the Paleo diet the same as the ZONE diet just with less carbs??

I believe what you asking is exactlly what Phil does with his diets [ high good fats ,mod protien / carbs ...but carbs from fruits and veggies only ]....[ maybe hire him for a consult ? ] I too am interested in what you are asking ......I am extremely insulin sensitive ........so carbs scare me .......I hate veggies ......but love fruits ....I may start introducing them soon to see how I react.......I just recently got into very good condition [ after years being off season ......lol ] I don't want to lose my condittion .....I can say that years ago I had a girlfriend that got into unbelievable shape eatting chicken / steak ......cashews , nat peanutbutter .......and fruit ........she did cardio almost daily and weight trained hard .........but the diet really is what was the difference .....it was scary how much she changed in 8 weeks !!!

I've thought about hiring Phil, maybe just a consultation? Or would I have to buy into a full-on program? I'd like to pick his mind about it if this is something that he does, but I was just interested to know if others have tried this and see what they think.

PM him bro .......he is cool .......I am sure you could do just a consult is that is want you want ......He is a master of what you are looking for ? When I am ready I will do the same .......

phil....

phil is a diet and training pioneer. eveyone here knows he knows his stuff. he has a healthy out look on things as well. hes also a very nice guy w so much knowledge its crazy. hiring him would save you a lot of time and effort, that would otherwise be wasted.

Exactly why I added fruit in my diet, and I am not getting fat.
Phil recommends it, and I have seen some of his guys like t muscle who used the diet to get in great shape...
MY body hates simple sugars or excessive carbs....I got fatter doing a low fat high complex carb high protein diet in the mid 1990's ala vic richards style.
I have been eating more furit apples and bananas from Phils influenece and still a bit of rice and oatmeal and not blimping up....

Every now and then, I will slum for information at T-Nation.com (I like some of the articles, but their "holier than bbing" attitude is enough to keep me from being a regular visitor. I did find a really interesting article on their site last night : **broken link removed**

Good information on how fruit affects insulin levels in the body. Plus I was going over some carb numbers on the atkins website... and you can eat a ton of fruit for the amount of carbs they provide! In example:

0.5 cup Rice, white, cooked 22.3 grams carbs

VS

1 each Orange 16.3 grams carbs.

So instead of having a half cup of rice, you could have one and a half medium oranges instead to get the same carb numbers. Seems simplistic, but I can imagine feeling much more satisfied having eaten one and half medium oranges over a paltry half cup of rice. Yes, there is the argument of simple versus complex carbs, and fructose versus sucrose, but I'm about 5 days into this way of eating and have lost some fat, I feel a million times better and feeling like a fruit convert.

........been doin the "paleo" thing for 5 years now! if aint frim the trees, ground or ocean i aint eatin it! except for one meal/ PWO shake

Triguy...

Wow, five years??? What is a typical daily menu like for you? Did you drop bodyfat and keep your strength or was there a comprimise?

(Tri-guy: you a triathlete or something too?)

I competed in tri's/cycling for 3 years. master level sprinting now
I like seeing what my body can do.

2 chicken legs & 2 granny apples

workout
PWO shake (whey & O.J.)

steak , aspargus, spinach, mushrooms avacado (2 tblsp) (2 days a week b4 heavy strength/sprints i eat steak& black beans at this meal/ make sure im glycogen loaded-anabolic)

salmon , veggies, avacado the same

chicken leg, veggies , avacado the same

my only stray is on sun when i hit the moviews , i have some popcorn.

I follow "metabolic typing" eating plan. Says im a protein type. I AM! I thrive on protein & fats. Also processed foods rice , pasta would irritate my gut an i would get boated.
I didnt really notice strength diffrences due to supps ;) an way too many other variables.
I just feel better an stay leaner with relative ease.

hope this helps. check out metabolic typing & paul cheks book/articles "eat move & be healthy"
