Sore Elbows doing Triceps

Hey guys

I have very sore elbows after and during every Triceps workout

I am thinking this may be from tendinitis?

i am wondering if anyone else experiences this pain?

I used to get sore elbows from squatting that were aggravated by tricep extension type exercises with a bar.

Changing my grip on squats and staying away from extensions helped.
Lying dumbbell extensions with palms facing each other worked fine too.

Is it all exercises that seem to aggrevate your elbows or just specific ones? Seeing an ART specialist would help if you can afford it. Other than that, you will just have to be careful with the exercises you choose (if they don't all cause problems) and experiment with a variety of different grips

Bro I used to get a sore elbow when I did tri extensions and now I have been having a very sharp pain in the tip of my elbow. I use an elastic xl knee sleeve and it helps a little but i keep injuring it. I had it now for 5 months. I had a x ray done and it came back negative. I used to go really heavy on the extensions. Keep an eye on it

Bro I had the same thing for about a year both elbows. Diagnosed as tendonitus. It got so bad I would go home and ice my elbows after every pressing day. I took about 3 weeks off twice during that year and symptoms would go away for about 5 weeks then come back worse.
I had been ego lifting in the gym for the last year every nd I mean every chest work out I would go up to 405 for 5 sets of 8-10 reps paused raw on flat bench. I did this twice a week! Well eventually my left tricep rupture at the tip of elbow and had to be surgically repaired. I was out about a year the doc who performed the surgery warned me that the right would go if I started going heavey again.
I was back in the gym about 9 months just got back to hitting 405 for 10 and the right ruptured! This time I had a better job and had a sports med doc perform the surgrey cut my recovery down to about 6 months . Well I was back about 14 months and last April my left was reruptured (while showing someone how to do a Paul Dicks press from decline with 135!)
Whent back to sports med surg and had it repaured just got back into gym in december......

If I would have taken 4-6 months off when my elbows first started getting sore I probaly would not have ruotured them in the first place. I was also running tren and test e and believe this contributed as well .
Take the time off!! REST and HEAL dont be a dumbass like me lol the damager to my tendons will never heal my lifts will never be the same. My tirs used to be one of my best body parts now one of my weakest.....

I had the same problem as you and I try everything like cream etc and it didnt work and then when I start taking Test E, it went away lol I am serious. So no more pain for me!

Same here bro just rest like everyone has suggested

I wonder if GH therapy would help with this issue. I had a small tear in my pec minor and after a 4 month treatment of serostim is was gonne.

Try doing high rep band work your elbows and stay away from overhead exercises for tris. and skull crushers. Stick with push downs with bands and warm them up real good.

Seated overhead extensions with ez-curl bar is what did my left elbow in. After I started to go super heavy it set in and even though I've laid off it for 2 months now it still flares up here and there. I've been taking curcumin twice a day and it seems to help a bit as an anti-inflam but it's still annoying as all hell. Personally I'd just stay away from anything that causes unnecessary stress to the elbow. Good luck.

i have a bad elbow. Heavy skullcrushers destroy my elbow & cause alot of pain. Went to a Dr. but he is hesitant on giving me shots for tendenitis as he says it just masks the real problem & actually weakens the tendons.

U could try Emu oil, might help.

Ak

Switch up how you do the tricept work out. elbows to far, to far out, lower weight, etc. I had the pain, but I think it was due to my crappy joints...

Elbow sleeves work for me on all my heavy pressing and direct tricep work. I use APT, check them out if you want. That being said, the old joke applies " I went to the doc and told him it hurts when i do this, so the doc told me dont do that!" Stick to multi joint movements for triceps like close grip presses etc. It seems to work for me. My elbows are pretty fucking bad, but the wraps and sticking to the basics helps alot.

Also, curcumin and cissus are great supplements to use for tendonitis. Great anti inflammatory effect. Give them both a shot.

Close grip bench press can tweek your elbow IF you do it wrong. If it hurts or feels weird switch up the elbows or grip.

Agreed. I should have clarified that for me close grip equals about shoulder width and definitely hurts alot less then if I gripped closer. Done right, you feel it in the triceps perfectly. Pressing with an EZ curl bar works quite well also, for some reason the angled grip takes some stress off my elbows.

My theory: The triceps is a muscle designed to work both at the elbow and the shoulder joint. When you force the triceps to ONLY work at the elbow, you cause a great deal of stress at the long head attachment point (distal side). If you do triceps exercises in a way works the triceps both at the elbow and the shoulder, you spread the stress properly between the two joints and cause a lot less stress on the elbow. The whole "don't move the upper arm" and "keep the elbows pinned in" during extensions SEEMS correct, but it is actually not bio-mechanically correct.

EZ curl bar skull crushers strain my elbows. Dumbbell skull crushers don't as much, so I focus more on those. No other tri exercises seem to be an issue for me.

Agreed
