Anyone have one of the Sorinex J*Squats at your gyms or home gyms? If anyone has access to one can you take a picture of the bottom of the piece which slides over a hammer arm??? I’m too cheap to spend $600+ on a belt squat attachment, but like it’s design.

So I’m mirroring it with my DIY version. Anyone interested I’ll list out what I used..

6’ - 2” x 1/4” flat bar
2’ - 3.5” x 3/16” wall square tube
4’ - 3” x 14 gauge square tube
1’ - 1-1/2’ pipe sch. 80
1’ - 5/8” solid round bar
1’ - 1/2” stainless round bar
2 - 1/2” mountable bearings
1 - weldable pop pin
1 pack of 1.5” rubber bumpers

*( bearings, pop pin, and bumpers came from McMaster Carr)

Cost me $100 for everything; mig welded everything with .035 wire.

Just wondering if there’s a ledge/or stop on the under side to keep the handle/stand in place. It’s the only thing that has me puzzled. I added a pop pin to keep it stationary, but something’s not quite right. If no one has one or has access I’ll have to figure something out.

Gonna coat em in some black Cerakote for scratch resistance.

Thanks PM…

I can't answer your question but nice work on the fabrication. I bought a cheap MIG unit off of Amazon to play with and I really suck.

Thanks man. I’m not a welder by trade whatsoever! I did the same as you and purchased a cheap one like $200 off of Amazon. One that’d do Tig, Mig, and stick. Well I learned real quick the machine DOES matter!

I just watched several YouTube videos of course. Went to the steel yard around me and picked up scraps to play with. Just ran bead after bead after bead. Ground em down and did it some more.

Also spend a few bucks on a decent hood too! I love my Esab Sentinal A50. I also picked up a carbon fiber pancake one from CMR Fabrications. You can actually see what you’re working on prior to sparking up your bead.

I picked up an multi-process welder, Eastwood 250i, great lil machine and it performs flawlessly. Does Mig/Tig/Electrode. I highly recommend it! I did however pick up a separate Everlast machine for just doing TIG welding. The Eastwood 250i would have been fine but I just wanted the one from Everlast. I need work and more practice Tig welding; cause the ones that weld for a living make that shit look effortless and make beautiful welds.

@Reno911;Meant to ask if you’re using fluxcore mig wire or solid mig wire? I started with the flux mig wire and it’d make a big mess. Lots and lots of grinding! And it just didn’t make very atheistic weld. Maybe if I was an actual welder by trade I could do it. I bought a 125CF tank online and now I just swap it out at a gas supply house near me when needed. The gas you’d need is C25 or 75% Argon/25% CO2. If you weren’t aware.

It’s night and day welding with the C25 gas versus using flux core wire. I won’t ever use the flux core again. Only when using an electrode rod.

Thanks @Mufasa123 for all your help. Once I complete my DIY belt squat attachment I’ll post a few pics of the finished results.

which brand belt are you using for the belt squat?

Me personally use Spuds adjustable belt squat belt. I stand on two of the Rogue ballistic blocks for extra range of motion too.

I just ordered the Spud adjustable belt. Looking forward to it

In order to apply Cerakote ceramic coatings you need to blast the steel in order to get a nice anchor profile for the coating to stick.

I tried a cheap ass sand blasting set up from Harbor Freight out of curiosity… spent like $40. I hate Harbor Freight for the most part but what the hell… Welp, waste of money! Should have known!!!

If your looking for a solid portable sand blaster then pick up the Texas Blaster! Can’t say enough abt this rig. You’re just gonna need a large volume and higher cfm air compressor. I already had one for painting various equipment. (For reference mine is an 80 gallon; 15cfm @ 90psi)

Blasted these parts in probably 30-40min. Was in the back yard since this will make a nice dust storm! I laid down a heavy duty tarp to recapture some of the blast media. Got the steel to that nice clean bright white finish. It’s ready to be coated now!

Finished the DIY version of Sorinex’s rack attachment *J-Squat for belt squats. I used Cerakote for the coating since it’s durable. You’re gonna need a decent spray gun (Iwata LPH-80) to apply it though. Since I don’t have a dedicated oven for curing Cerakote I used the C-series which is air cured. Added a Cerakote clear coat to it for additional scratch protection. Also slapped on a CNC lasered Sorinex branded plate to give it a more professional look.

With the Cerakote I spent a lil under $200 total. So I saved $400 and some change by fabricating my own version.

Shout out to @Mufasa123! Thanks for the pictures to aid me on my project!!!!

Looks great! This is a really nice home gym design too. Take a session or so to acclimate and then you are off to the races. Enjoy!

Had an update to this build. I’ve never been able to use it yet cause where I have my spare plates mounted on my power rack they block me from attaching the J-Squat. So I tried the other side of the rack, but my dumbbell stand blocks me. Now I’m frustrated!!

Thought about it a lil, and then made two small attachments to make this usable in my gym. One piece needed to be able to swivel from left to right, and the other needed to swivel up and down. I wanted to update this in case someone else runs into this issue with there DIY version.

I still gotta add a rubber/plastic backing to keep the rack from getting chewed up. And also needs blasted/coated!

First/second pic is the attachment to allow the main attachment to swivel from left to right about 45°-60°. The third & fourth are the piece that allows the main attachment to move up and down. The last few show both together and you can see how it’ll work.

Now I’ll be able to use my DIY J*Squat once these are finished. Hope this helps anyone else that may take on this project.

Swivel is genius. Can help in so many ways and non linearity doesn't impair movement at all. I was lucky mine was perfect and even fit in my rack perfectly as my rack is out from the wall some due to door/wall around a pump which would impair plate storage in my 6 post.

I didn’t have a choice. I have so much equipment crammed in there that I had to come up with something. It can’t be rearranged anymore without creating a conflict elsewhere. I’m just glad I was able to make something to make my build usable!

They have a saying "necessity is the mother of invention." It applies!

I'm out of room too. I think we all are!
