Just ran across this, figured it might be interesting to folks here-

Sotagliflozin:

Per ChatGPT:
“Sotagliflozin is a dual inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporter types 1 and 2 (SGLT1 and SGLT2). It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on May 26, 2023, under the brand name Inpefa. This approval is specifically for reducing the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization for heart failure, and urgent heart failure visits in adults with heart failure, type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and other cardiovascular risk factors.

However, sotagliflozin has not been approved for use in type 1 diabetes. In December 2024, the FDA issued a Complete Response Letter (CRL) to Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, rejecting the application for sotagliflozin (Zynquista) as an adjunct to insulin therapy for glycemic control in adults with type 1 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

Therefore, as of now, sotagliflozin is approved for specific cardiovascular and renal indications but not for type 1 diabetes management.”

I imagine that’s comparable to empagliflozin (Jardiance).

If so, @nothuman is the resident expert on Jardiance.

Yes these are in the SGLT2 class. I have not seen much talk here on who is using them.

Does Jardiance share the same cardio protective and kidney protective attributes? Because that’s 2 things I would love to have another good answer for…

In 10 or 20 years we may have real world experience from a large group as to how effective that is for longevity . But I have asked multiple cardiologist if statins actually help lead to longer life spans then not using it and they tell me there is still no data that they have seen to show that. But maybe in a couple more decades we will have real world data on that topic too.

Will be interested to hear @nothuman and @bbxtreme input on this vs Jardiance. I’ve been on Jardiance for over a year now with no issues. Likely part of what keeps my GFR so solid alongside the basics.

Isn't this because people are put on statins too late?
