Anyone know Ohio DMV's reporting policies back to other states? I got popped for 97 in a 65. Which was just a $150 fine in Ohio. But if they report it back to Jersey it will be 6 points on my licence plus insurance fines. :(

I would imagine that it will get reported back,,,just my guess.

Everything is reported under your drivers license number. You will be assessed points but I cant tell you if you will be assessed points from the state in which it was committed or your own. It should be from the state in which it was committed because well thats were it was committed. Just go to driving school and have the points reduced. If u dont have a driving school program go to court plead no contest and ask that the points be reduced or stricken. Good luck

I'd say reported the same way we know of a dude from Jersey that got a ticket in Ohio. 97 is cookin, you shoulda gotten the other three just for the hell of it.

Well I had actually lifted just before I came around the bend when he nailed me. I was trying to get past an idiot I had been stuck behind for a while. You know the kind who don't know how to keep a constant speed and are all over the lane from line to line.

I have a NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) Code book from 2002 which states that "points" are not reported interstate because different states use points in a variety of ways.

For example, your home state may define "excessive speeding" in terms of a fine plus 6 points, but the state you were cited in may define as a fine plus 12 points, so it's inherently unfail to apply differing states' rules to a single state.

Therefore, the infraction is reported, but not the "points". Again, this is per the NYS VTL (2002) - it may be different now, but most likely not.

Thanks for the info. makes me feel better

Your fine bro, I got a ticket a few years back coming home from the Arnold and I never paid it. I got another ticket in Indiana the same night for doing 4! over. Really bullshit!

There are a few states that work together on these things but still several that don't. You should be fine. You might get something in the mail saying you owe them money and if you don't pay they'll turn it over to your credit. Well they can't do that so tell them to kiss your ass as I'm dealing with an attorney from Georgia right now that tried to pull that on me. Doesn't fly.

The only thing that states seem to agree on are truck drivers at that's only cause they cross so many state line on a regular basis.

I'd pay the ticket regardless how invalid it is in another state. Next time you pass through they can run your plate with no cause because DMV records are public access and that ticket may turn into a bench warrant. Because of your evasion and due to the fact you are from another state. The judge may not post you bond, hold you in contempt, impound your vehicle sell it to get the money, etc... In ohio they dont kid around either. I do not like OHIO and the moving violation laws. They are hard headers over there. Im from Michigan just above ohio.

You know what, now that i think of it. You must have been skidded by a local because the state troopers will make you pay on the spot since you are out of state. Just for the reason everyone just mentioned above. Violators skate out of town and dont pay. Another state not only will not honor the warrant but wont honor another's point system. No agency is going to run lien on you and find this warrant. Drag you back to the station and drive you to Ohio. Man power is not there and time consuming. Doubt if even ohio was willing to come get you the holding agency will even hold you long enough for the other to come get you either.

knowing that troopers usually make you pay on the spot.

It was a trooper, young kid, he gave me a bond slip along with the ticket. I mailed it back with debit card info. Monday and it showed up on my account on Wends. they did not play around with it.

It's ok.

They won't report it due to what was stated above about point systems in the various states.

Just make sure you pay it on time. If you don't thats when it gets transferred because Ohio will impose a drivers license revoke on you and they will send a letter to NJ. It's justy like getting a ticket in Philly. It won't come over unless it is a DUI or you dont pay the fine on time.

yah they dont kid around. im surprised they even let you go with out paying. many times and even with my friend sheriff deputy they made him pay with a debit card to on the spot even though he had a badge. surprises me they let you skate. Michigan troopers dont even like ohio troopers.

No they won't, I have an outstanding ticket from 3-4 yrs ago like I said above and they've never done anything about it. I got it from a state trooper and he took my license from me on the spot to try and insure that I'd come back. But I always carry 2-3 actual license's with me, 1 in glove box and 1 on me and 1 at home. They won't do anythng about it and won't report anything. The only time There could be an issue is during an accident.

I got a ticket going to the Arnold 4yrs ago. As soon as I entered the staed. Sons of bitches-nice way to treat visitors who come to spend money in the state. I called local DMV in MD, and they said no it wouldnt show up. So I paid it. Then it DID show up! Bastards! I was going 74 in a 60.

I've heard this happen to others before. That's why I don't pay and try and not get caught in those states. The other way around it from what I was told by a truck driver is to pay like $5 over the fine and they have to send you a refund check. Don't ever cash the refund check cause then they can't close the account out completely but they do make a record of you paying the fine. Not sure if it works but it's worth a try to someone who doesn't want the hassle.

ticket

1) you will be charged points according to Ohio law for that speed on YOUR state license.

2) pay the ticket, no matter what. it will eventually catch up with you if you don't.

3) points are removed usually at 1 per year in most states, unless they have a driving school you can attend that might remove them faster. Since you got it in Ohio but live elsewhere, I'm not sure how that will work.

4) the part that really sucks is that YOUR insurance company will be notified. and then your insurance will go up.

I've had 2 tickets in the last 15 years, both in Ohio, at a speed of 5mph over the posted limit. My insurance went up at the next payment. I pay monthly here. If you have out of state plates wherever you go, you are a TARGET! You will be pulled over before the local boy is. The reason why, out of staters are more apt to just pay the ticket, then to travel back and forth to fight it, it's cheaper for you to pay, then spend more time and money fighting it. THEY know that! It's a win situation for the state. And wouldn't you really hate winding up in jail because a cop pulled up behind you and ran your plate while changing a flat. Or some other type of breakdown.

Ticket

As I left the Court House after fighting my ticket one of the locals told me "Welcome to Ohio! Arrive on vacation, go home on probation." Best part of all was the fact that the State Trooper came from behind me, passed me, drove for a distance, then pulled over into the right lane and slowed that traffic down to under 65. I was traveling in the left lane and was going 65, he whipped out behind me and pulled me over. Told me he clocked me at 80 while he was in FRONT of me going down the highway. No radar, nothing! Just his word that he clocked me at 80mph while he was driving down the road in FRONT of me. I spoke to his commanding officer and he said with his 15 years of experience he had no idea how the citing officer was able to do it. During the hearing I had admitted to going up to 70mph to allow for traffic flow and merging cars, so I was found guilty. Cost if I hadn't contested the ticket $100.00. Cost since I did contest $156.00 for the fine, gas for 2 trips to Ohio for hearings, hotel room for one night, and my time 2 hours each way each time. Insurance rate increase, and bear in mind I had no other tickets since 1990 for going 60 in a 55, and NO accidents on my insurance EVER. You add it up!
