Squat and deadlift in the same workout

Not recommended brutha, that's hell on the low back if you r using decent weight and form.

I did it a couple times when I was first starting the lifting game , I can still remember not being able to tie my shoes for about 3 days my low back was so sore.
However I have seen some advanced guys do it from time to time, kudos to em, not gonna be me.

I think it's a great idea as a change of pace to shock your body.

You just need to dial back the intensity and increase the frequency.

Why not try it for 90days. I'm gonna now that your brought up this topic.

It keeps the workouts fun, and it may be a great stimulus. And if it turns out to be less than ideal............the world will not end.

I've done it in the past with great success, I did have to cut back on weight on deads. after squats, I felt more warmed up and was able to keep better form on deads.

i do it several times a year.....

then (at least) take the next 2 days off......

I'm thinking alternating heavy squat/light dead to light squat/heavy deads. Maybe throw in some weighted lunges if I havnt passed out.

I remember your thread on this where you did some insane volume and numbers
on the squat after deads? or the other way around?

I actually wanted to give it a shot after reading that but never ended up doing
it. Will definitely give it a shot now that this thread came up and reminded me.

I used to do it
Heavy squats/light deads and vice versa
Was usually unable to workout for a good 2 days after that though

Got strong as fuck at the time too .. could squat 600lbs for reps and maxed my deadlift at 710lbs

Done it, quite liked it but next day was so tired and lethargic its unreal. Now i squat one week deadlift the next but always leg press after squats and deadlifts and progress is better than ever

I've been doing fairly heavy rack pulls followed up by squats lately. I really thought my squat portion would suffer for it, but it actually doesn't too much at all. And it also serves as a nice lower back warmup.

On the other hand, I did deep, slow SLDLs after squats just before moving on to what I'm doing now, and that really fried my back and brought out an old injury. So I'd say keep the volume light to start out if that's the route you take.

Westside does it, as does Jim Wendler in his 2 days a week split.

He'll 5/3/1 for squat, then use the deadlift for accessory work, say 5 sets of ten.
Next week he switches it, 5/3/1 for dead, squat 5 sets of ten.

I can only do it if I am going with lighter weight and higher reps.
If I try to do both in the 2-5 rep range, I fry my CNS and feel like crap for a few days.
