first hey everyone...

I consider myself an intermediate lifter.. i've worked out throughout high school for sports and after for fitness... but this is my problem or question rather.

my leg press weight is 375 and climbing..i don't think i've reached the point were its too heavy yet.. god's gift to me was extremely strong legs..

however my squats are a third of that i believe i did 175 for 10 reps and know and got that with no problem. They've been climbing but i'm getting to the point where i'm starting to feel uneasy about going higher on squats... I know abour proper techniqueand practice it in every exercise i do but i'm not understanding why i'm not reaching a weight that is becomming difficult.. i guess this sounds redicuoulous because should just increase the weight but i don't know if i can actually get much higher.. i find myself afraid of falling over or loosing control of the heavier wieght on squats. should i just learn to get over that fear or is there something more that i need to practice while doing squats...

any thing would help
and thanks

Do you squat in a power cage? If not do that, get over your fear and increase the weight.

CROWLER

CAGE

THE CAGE IS THE ONLY WAY TO FEEL COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO PUSH YOURSELF WITHOUT A SPOT. SPOTS DO WONDERS MENTALLY AND PHISICALLY. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SPOTER THEN THE CAGE IS THERE FOR A REASON BAIL IF YOU HAVE TO SAVE YOUR ASS, BUT AT THE SAME TIME BE SMART ABOUT IT AS THIS EXERCISE WILL RUIN YOUR CAREER FAST SO STAY STRICT ON FORM AND USE FLAT SHOES IT HELPS IF YOU START TO GO HEAVY USE KNEE WRAPS. I CAN SQUAT 315X10 WITHOUT KNEE WRAPS BUT WHEN I GO UP TO FOUR PLATES KNEE WRAPS ARE NOT AN OPTION.

Got2Behuge,
Safety always when doing squat and confidence that you can handle the weight. Always do your squat in a power cage. Once you are in it and set the side bars to a certain height to allow you to bail out.

if the weight is too heavy, just handle a lighter weight and as your strength builds, so will your confidence. Like the others said, a spotter makes a world of a difference. Hang in there and let your strength progress . Squats are hard but you just have to like it. Form is so important so dont compromise it for a heavier weight.
If you're doing leg press and squat at the same workout, start with squats as your first. Make sure to warm your joints with 1-2 sets of very light leg extensions and few mins on threadmill. :)

i am using a power cage and i am getting a good warm up as well.. i tink that my problem is i've just got to get over my fear of looking like a dumb ass if i get to the point i can't get back up..lol but i also guess that thats the whole point on lifting to get big too lol you've got to push yourself to a heavy enough weight were you are really working your muscles...

i apreciate the help guys:) i'll be stricter with form which isn't too shaby right now and i will get over my fears of looking like a dumbass

thanks again

nate

Leave your ego at the door and dont worry about looking like a dumba**. :)
You'll be more a dumbas** if you lift a weight you cant handle and get stuck at the bottom or half way up. :D From the minute the bar digs into your upper back, you should know right away if this is what you can handle. As with any exercise, let the weight naturally progress.. Try doing some box squats too. Put a bench so that when your bum touches it, you know you're parallel.

Keep in mind that you are not just lifting the bar and plates, but your bodyweight as well when squatting.
