Hey guys just wondering what's your take on how low to go on squats I read everything as far as depth goes.just wanted some of your opinions do you go ass to heels 90 a little above 90 a littlle below 90? I'm liking 90 I really don't have good hip and ankle mobility so ass to heels is really hard my knees start turning in.

I would say.. squat to whatever depth you can squat to in a safe fashion (i.e. neutral spine) and in a way that optimally allows you to contract the muscle..

but be sure to do your stretches.. don't neglect flexibility.

I think it really boils down to how your built. Some people can get really low others can't. The way I look at it the lower you go the more hamstrings and glutes you bring into the lift. I've found using reverse bands to be very effective as they allow you to get really deep while using a heavy that is challenging at the top and gives you just the right amount of help out of the bottom give a shot you'll feel the difference. Hope this helps

If you learn to squat correctly(like how kelly starrett teaches) you should squat to full ROM.

I don't think you'll ever get a final answer on this because everybody's situation/structure/goals are different. I squat to many different depths depending on how i'm feeling that day or what I'm trying to emphasize. I also low-bar squat as it feels safer and natural to me.

For people who bitch and moan about depth, steve kuclo...

That doesn't mean he built his legs just from doing squats like that. Usually when short videos are posted using some huge weight, its done for showing off purposes and not as part of a normal workout.

Kuclo gained the majority of his mass on DC training, and squat was one of his leg exercises in his rotation. It might not be the only reason his legs are big, but it is definitely a huge contributing factor. His amateur training videos showing his day to day training are on youtube.
