Statins effect muscular performance

Interesting study, small sample size with 30 patients. Studied 3 groups. Statin users who experience myopathy are known to experience a decrease in muscle strength and endurance..this study looked at non symptomatic statin users and also a control group. Findings show both statin groups experience a negative effect on muscle capacity.

Would be interesting to see this performed in a larger patient population

Went to a heart specialist about two years ago, the doc put me on 10mgs of Crestor, told me I would probably be on the max (40 mgs). Because of an injury, I wasn't doing cardio so I started doing 1/2 hour/5 days week without starting the crestor and my total cholesterol went from 315 to 254. Started taking the 10mgs but every other day and got down to 143, dropped to 3X/week and went to 188. I decided to stop it a couple months ago and it is now sitting around 206. I did not find any negative effects of taking the crestor but did not like taking another drug. I found the heart specialist is a drug pusher working for the drug companies, I did not like it.
I have a few extra bottles, I am sure I may need to go back on it at some time. They say it is hereditary, but I take my supplements to avoid it.

statins are very helpful but they do make u feel like kinda crappy and achy when they build up in the system...my doc suggested using them once a week in a higher dose , it s still very effective and doesnt feel any negative side effects..

Statins significantly decrease testosterone levels but I think everyone knows this, they have other nasty side effects too. I believe they are the number one money maker for big pharma, I know they used to be.

Do not worry about slightly elevated cholesterol, there are factors more determining that relate to heart disease. Blood sugar and high triglycerides among others.

lso important that your HDL cholesterol is not too low.

It’s quite possible they still are. I would say more then half of the patients I see over 40 are on statins.
