Step Count for monitoring NEAT

Just curious if anyone uses a fit bit / fitness tracker to measure their step count so to monitor NEAT levels?

If so, what does your average daily step count look like if trying to just stay fairly lean? And how might you adjust this number to drop fat further?

Of course, this is assuming that you’re already weight training on top of this.
 
I don't use a fitbit, even though I probably should, I use a pedometer on my phone. Average for me is about 20k (highly active job, choosing to walk if it's somewhere within a couple miles, etc). When trying to lose body fat, I'm willingly going out of my way to start new projects, work on things around the house, do yard work or increase my walking frequency. Doing that, my step count (assuming my phone is even on me most of the time) can get to 35k+. However, I don't think they're truly great predictors of NEAT, I think your best bet is to simply go about things the more difficult and physical way and start walking more. For many, the fitbit can hold them more accountable, and if that's the case for you, keep doing it. I just don't assume they're all that accurate and they're really not measuring things that are truly burning the most calories, like real, physical work that may or may not involve tons of footsteps.
 
I think 10,000 steps is about 5 miles for avg height human

So about 400-500 calories burned.

When I was working med surg floor I broke 7000-8000 steps daily.

10,000 steps is quite a bit if your at an office job and have to do lots of paperwork or computer shit. Hard to hit without actually putting some miles in on road work or at the gym

Oh and if you lift weights with your Fitbit it fucks your steps all up. You get like 2-3 steps per rep lol
 
I’m a really laid back person and found out I don’t fidgit or get up much unconsciously. It makes a difference in NEAT, so my Fitbit helped me a lot to move more
 
Track your average daily steps before dieting, then when dieting never let that number drop off, your body will naturally try and move less so you have to make an effort to continue your normal daily step count.
