Sterile and Bacteriostatic Water are Prescription Items.

Illegal to possess with out a script.
I received this from someone who carried it, and was contacted by the FDA to stop selling it.
"We have been contacted by the FDA who don't seem to care for our business.
Many of their questions centered around sterile and bacteriostatic water.
These technically are prescription items. As its for sale everywhere, and we were never asked to stop selling it, I thought it would be okay.

Apparently not.

As I looked into it, I found its illegal even for customers to possess (unless they have a doctor's prescription or special license). To avoid problems for me and my customers, it has been dropped permanently."

I doubt they will be busting down doors for this but still c'mon now...it's just another trail to lead 'em to users....

In a pinch I looked at sterile normal saline eyewash in the drug section at the grocery store. I concluded that if I could put it into my eyes I could shoot it subq. I did and I have. Now I throw this up for discussion more than a recommendation. I have no issues whatsoever using it personally in place of bacteriostatic water but:

The large bottles pose a great infection risk if you are going in and out numerous times and you keep it at room temperature.

You are using an insulin syringe and shooting subq which also limits the introduction of organisms and deep tissue involvement.

I have been using sterile normal saline eyewash for subq injections for 3-4months -same small bottle. Keep it in clean place with cap on and room tempature - no problems whatsoever.

Who the fuck does the FDA think they are. You know, sometimes I think of sad situations like when the terroists did the 9-11attacks and killed all those innocent people. They could have at least taken out scum like insurance compaines, fda,fbi,dea,etc....

Here is a thought if you are concerned about contaminating a large supply of stock solution. When you purchase the bottle, get some sterile Eppendorf tubes (they are lab tubes that hold 1.5 mLs - you can get smaller tubes too) and make aliquots of your saline solution. That way, you take out an aliquot, use it, and then throw it away if you have anything left over. This way you avoid contaminating your entire supply of stock solution. I work in a laboratory and we use techniques like this all the time... it works well. We use the tubes keep sterile water at RT with no problem.

They use these tubes in highschool labs these days so I imagine you can order them without an issue.

Im just gonna pull the labels off my bac water and if for some rare season im caught with one i'll just say its regular tap water. The odds of them lab testing that and finding out its "sterile" water are 1 in a million.
