I personally think this thread is LONG overdue. bare with me while i explain...

I have had alot of PMs from younger guys (usually) or guys new to bodybuilding and they worry and fret about insignificant details of either diet, training or both. Or there are even guys who message me questioning their trainers advice and methods. just stick with it! if they are trainers on here they prolly know their shit. almost ALL methods will build you a better physique but you HAVE to stick with it. its not rocket science.

if you are new to the sport there are a TON of things that just "don't really matter" at that point. here are a few examples:
-how should i warm up? answer: however you want just make sure you are warmed up lol
-what training split should i do? answer: how do you like to train? lol
-how can i get bigger biceps? answer: by getting bigger everywhere lol
-should i confuse the muscle? answer: the muscle doesnt have a brain just lift! lol
maybe those are bad examples but hope i made a point....

HONESTLY, from my experience pick a TRAINER or a split and STICK WITH IT. get a sensible diet and STICK WITH IT. simply workout with INTENSITY and not too much FREQUENCY and not too long of workouts (make sure you can recover) and pick PROVEN basic exercises and make sure you get alot of protein in your diet and don't get too fat.
thats IT. no secrets. no big tricks. if you aren't growing then your diet sucks or your genetics suck. cuz almost any monkey can go into a gym lift heavy stuff and should be able to grow ESPECIALLY if you are enhanced.

there are many little things that matter to experienced competitors who are near their genetic/enhanced limit.but for newbs just get a plan and STICK TO IT. don't question so many things. get a trainer from here and shut up and DO IT. there is no secret. no magic. TIME is your greatest nemisis. muscle building takes TIME.

hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears. i enjoy the PMs and i enjoy helping guys out but if you switch diets and workout every other week and question everything your trainer tells you HOW THE HELL are you going to ever progress or even know what is working and whats not....?
i love helping you guys and i love this board and i love this sport so i want to help and dont want to be a downer but you don't become a freak overnight. and some guys will never become a freak. to be completely honest, if i eat and wkout i grow. i am rarely in the gym for more than 30 minutes. i only do basic lifts. i put on 10 pounds of solid muscle a year for many years and i am what you may call genetically gifted and still ONLY put on 10 lean pounds a year and i am VERY HAPPY with that. that is GREAT results. so quit thinking you are gonna look like a freak in 2 weeks and its all your trainers fault.

feel free to pm me anytime with questions guys. i really do enjoy helping. and maybe all that some of you need to hear is "YES, your trainer is giving good advice."

Solid!

Absolutly , BUT , i do ask alot of questions not to second guess the man advice but to learn . When I hired my trainer I didn't want to be spoon fed but to learn why and what for we are doing what we are doing

understandable

however, i just want people to realize that sometimes you don't even have to ask questions if you LIVE it you will LEARN it.

and i really wanna stress to everyone that 10 pounds of muscle a year is GREAT for anyone. if you did that for 5 years.... you do the math;)

so don't freak out if you aren't buying bigger shirts your first month of working out -JS

What a good post!! I use to be one of those kids changing workouts and diets every week, but since Ive got help from a buddy on here Ive been sticking to one workout and diet. And the results prove that its been working.

I don't know how they do it.

Being a trainer for bodybuilders must be one of the most frustrating things that you could do. I can see how it is probably kind of like raising kids. Sometimes you have to let your client fall flat on their face to learn a lesson, and only after that happens may that person start trusting their trainer.

yes i agree with this soo much!! i use to be one of those kids that bulked up and thought it was all muscle, but i got fat. i now know that with time results will come. being patient is the key, even though it is hard. were americans so we want eveything NOW lol, but building quality muscles takes longer.

another little example of the patience this sport requires:

due to injuries my left arm was 1 inch smaller than my right arm. it drove me crazy. so i made a plan and executed it.
after one YEAR my arms were finally the same size.
a client asked me once how i had the patience to do that and how did i do it?
i said: one centimeter at a time :)

gotta be patient in this sport. doesn't happen over night. -JS

I have a budy of mine that is both an eye surgeon and a wannbe bodybuilder. I absolutely refuse to train him! F@cking guy doesnt listen for sh!t! Always wants to go heavy. Even if he cant lift it he wants to impress me by trying anyway. No matter what I tell him not matter how many times I repeat myself he refuses to follow instructions. But is always asking me for advice and to train him. I flat out told him to his face "you're the most intelligent and dumbest f@cking guy I know"..... Guy has offered to do lasik surgery on me at his cost and I wont take it. Because I know he is a royal pain in the ass and will never listen to me. I refuse to put myself through that kind of headache anymore!

"you gotta go to the gym the whole week, a little bit of color if you didn't go to the beach, and then the last thing you need to take care of is the outfit. If the outfit is off the whole package is off and if your off you aren't going to have a good night"

-Words of a genius ;)

ah man dont you love that lol. People will flatter you asking for advice and then almost in the same instant totally do the opposite of what you said. Just start saying "oh I dunno man I just do what feels right" lol

i feel..

that we as "bodybuilders" or weight lifting enthusiasts as i prefer to call myself are all impatient people that want to see results as soon as possible, while forgetting the process of muscle accrual actually takes a certain amount of time and also, we are always self doubting our current "regiment" of diet/training for the quest of the magic stack/diet/training protocol which can turn us into a beast overnight...

Yeah. Some guys think just because they know a lot in one area that they know a whole lot more in other areas of knowledge too. Of course it doesnt work that way. Its funny too, because at one time they listened to their teachers when they were getting their MD degree, but now they wont listen to you about bodybuilding. I guess its because you dont have a fancy degree.

This is the second most important piece advice! The first being, hire a good trainer. lol.

best threade ive read on this board!! hey johnny....lets see some pics!! :p
