Strategies to Manage Hunger while dieting?

What strategies have you used to manage hunger while dieting?

Any strategy you've used, whether "lean bulk" or contest prep goals would be much appreciated.

Some things that have worked for me:

- Ketogenic diet: Carbs seem to make me hungrier. While they are a performance enhancer, I'll trade the performance for less hunger at this point.
- Stimulants: These are very helpful until about 5pm when you cant take anymore...and they seem to burn out my CNS after about 3 weeks of continuous use. (DMAA, ephedrine, excessive caffeine, etc.)
- Kratom: best appetite suppressant I've found...but i think it messes with the gut microbiome.
- Meditation: still working on this one. I'm trying to learn how to separate the emotional distress from the physical discomfort, which is WAY harder said than done.

Any ideas and/or suggestions?
 
LittleSlice talked about something he uses while dieting, and I have used it too. Nicotine. And no....I'm not talking about tobacco. LS uses nicotine gum....I prefer lozenges. I break a 4mg lozenge in half, put it between my cheek and gum, and it can last up to two hours. When my energy is low due to lack of carbs, nicotine lozenges are a nice pick me up. They also have a good appetite suppressant effect. Cheap too.....10 bucks for 20 lozenges at Wallyworld.
 
Add more vegetables to each meal , especially raw they don't offer enough calories to impact your "diet" , the added fiber will help keep you full longer and keep you digestive system in good shape and you get the benefit of more healthy micro nutrition
May as well get something healthy out of it right

Ephedrine is a decent appetite suppressant
 
nicotine gum...no cravings or hunger pains

nicotine gum/lozenge/patch




I like the patches the most



helped with focus, alertness, appetite suppression, etc.



I haven't suffered any withdrawals (I was chewing up to 6 pieces of 4mg gum a day)
 
My favorites are:

Sugar free jello mix (entire box is like 4g. protein, 0 fat, 0 carb)
Giant salads with mustard or other calorie free "dressing"
Extra amounts of green veggies in place of starchy carbs
More water
Calorie free sparkling waters (I like Clear American Zero from Wally World)
Look up "Protein fluff" on YouTube. Very filling.
Spaghetti squash
Egg whites
 
Here is what I do when hunger gets extreme.

Drink a cup of all natural beef stock. Only about 2g protein, 1-2g carbs, no fat but tons of sodium (good when dieting), it will kill your appetite for at least an hour

Great advice about the sodium. Lots of people think cutting sodium = good. When dieting, increasing cardio, sweating more, having less calories coming in, the body needs MORE sodium. Good stuff.
 
Most good ideas have already been mentioned but one I've recently heard of is that 5-HTP actually increases satiety from a meal (when taken with the meal). It has other benefits so it might be worth a shot.
 
I will do ECA,nicotine gum,or really just fight off hunger mentally has worked very well for me...

Fasting!! I do it every day
 
I recently started fasting 13 hours and it certainly helps. Might make the transition into IF.
I fast in morning time till lunch...Has helped very well in leaning out while adding muscle...

Lol. It certainly sounds ass backward, but after getting used to it, my hunger is a lot more manageable. I feel pretty damn good for those first 4 hours after waking while I'm fasted. Blood glucose is steady, too. I can't manage the fasted training thing though... cardio, yes. Lifting? Forget it.
