OK I WAS TOLD BY A FRIEND OF MANY PROS TO DO STRETCHING BEFORE MY WORKOUTS IS THIS SMART???

ALSO IS IT SMART TO STRETCH DURING YOUR WORKOUT?

I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER STRETCHED BUT ID LIKE TO HEAR SOME OPINIONS .
 
All the new data coming out says stretching is a waste of time and does nothing for the muscle pre-workout. I believe that during and post is where you will see benefits.
 
i usually stretch b4 my workouts, not for a long time, but maybe load up the bar and while im standing there do a little stretching. my muscles tired usually so stretching helps a little bit..

even if you do a light set say warmup with 135 on bench or something, you are still kind of stretching in a sense. i just cant get in there throw on my heavy set and get at it.

i guess its still unknown, im always hurt though and i stretch so maybe i just shouldnt stretch and see how it goes...lol

"Extreme Stretching" per Doggcrapps guidlines, work absolute wonders. It's amazing.

Id say its like anything else, Works better for some then others.
I know DC swears buy Weighted stretching-During and actually
a very bigpart of the workout.

Honstly Ive tinkered around with it the way he describes
but never have realy give it a fair chance to give a good opinion.
 
WELL....I DON'T CARE WHAT THE STUDIES SAY...

A LIGHT WARMUP....MAYBE A 10 MINUTE WALK OR RIDE ON THE BIKE DOES WONDERS FOR ME. IT SEEMS TO PREPARE MY BODY FOR THE WORK AHEAD. SINCE I HAVE PAID MORE ATTENTION TO WARMUPS, AND STRETCHING BEFORE AND AFTER WORKING OUT....I HAVE FEWER PULLED, STRAINED MUSCLES. FEWER NAGGING INJURIES AS WELL. I'D SAY IF YOU DON'T THINK YOU NEED IT....DON'T DO IT. ONCE YOU'VE REALLY HURT YOURSELF....TORN A BICEP LIKE I DID...YOU'LL BECOME MORE INTERESTED IN INJURY PREVENTION.
 
I agree that a warmup followed by light stretching seems to loosen me up also(key is min. of 3x/stretch), just throwing the data out there. I will see if I can't get the journal to refrence it from tommorrow or the next day.

|--[\\\\]>----------- I used to stretch ALL THE TIME b4 i lifted, then one day s'one told me that they dont' stretch b/c it relaxes the muscle too much, just do like 2-3 good warm up sets with light weight, i started doing this and i am MUCH stronger when i lift, i really feel that it DOES relax the muslces too much, but this is just my opinion of course.
 
Yep, dont stretch a cold muscle, just warm-up...you can stretch during though.
 
stretching before exercise will reduce strength levels(from charles poliquin)
 
I stretch very lightly as a warm up. From what Im hearing here (Poliquin is very reputable) maybe I shouldnt...:confused:
 
poliquin says light, very light stretches to loosen up is ok just doing excessive stretching is detrimental to strength

Yes, this is all too complicated 4 me also. TT, do you stand up to wipe or remain sitting?
 
never stand up when wiping!! You'll know why 15 minutes later when "the itch" begins!
