Conclusion
"The present study showed that all of the three modes of combined strength and endurance training were effective in increasing maximal strength and endurance performance as well as lean body mass in healthy individuals following 24 weeks of combined strength and endurance training," the researchers wrote. "However, the increases in endurance performance were larger in magnitude when strength and endurance were performed on different days in comparison with that produced by same-session training."

"Furthermore, body fat mass was decreased only following combined strength and endurance training performed on different days."

Great study, thanks for sharing. I never liked doing cardio and weight lifting during the same session. Always felt burnt out during one or the other. Separating them is definitely ideal. I wish they would have looked at something like cardio in the AM, weights in the PM or something along those lines. That seems to be a common approach for many bbers.

I just want to remind everyone that the cardio done was steady state, not HIIT. A similar study was done combining strength training and HIIT and it showed they worked great in the same session.

Since it seems like most of you do steady state, this shouldn't be an issue but for people like me who prefer HIIT, this is worth mentioning.

It's going to be best to separate the two for most people. I believe fasted am cardio with training pm is optimal but everyone is different. Although sometimes that is not an option for some people and it's much more convenient doing cardio post training. Me personally I would never want to be doing steady state cardio for 30 mins + after training. The only cardio I would ever do post workout would be HIIT. Even just 10-15 mins if it's super intense can be great and plenty. Plus if anything HIIT can work your muscles even more so you don't kill your pump.

I changed my routine recently and now do weights one day, HIIT the next day, repeat.

That's pretty much the perfect routine in many ways. Especially for someone with your goals who just wants to be very healthy and look great to impress ladies :D

Great study. Thanks for sharing.

I always do steady state after weight except on leg day. I'm lucky to walk out of the gym.

I get in contest shape doing cardio post training. I never do fasted cardio unless I trained fasted and did cardio post. from my experience this study is bullshit.
