Does anyone here use the suicide grip method. Its Basically using no thumb to grip the barbell, instead your thumb is on the side with your other fingers. I have been doing this for years with almost all my lifts. I have been questioning my grip and was wondering if I might be safer, or get better results by actually gripping with my thumb. Any input would be appreciated

Thanks

i do it with back and chest....but use a normal grip when doing deads or rack pulls....

thumbless for me

i feel better using a thumbless grip...especially for back as it takes more of the bicep out of the exercise and i feel it more directly in the back muscles.

Truth?

Any truth that by putting your thumbs on the outside of the rope when performing tricep push downs you engage more of the triceps?

i suicide every time i bench. hopefully i dont die.

I'm much more comfortable using the suicide grip. I even catch myself trying to use it on side laterals

I use it on rows and stuff...I feel it better in my back.

i use it alot actually out of habbit. esp back movements. i use it for chest but after a certain weight i get paraniod of the bar slipping out of my hands

i just seen way too many youtube vids or vids periods of a bar comming down on someones chest or neck.

For years.....

Been using that grip for years for everything back, chest, arms, shoulders....everything! it just feels better. the guy who took me under his wings when i was a pup and new to the bb world said it the best.....

"you never have to worry about gripping anything to hard. you can focus better on the muscle that your working with this kind of grip"

so i did! :)

been using it for about 2 years now. My hands used to gramp so bad when liftin, it may be mental but i feel like it helped build my wrist strength up as well. No matter my since i have the smallest wrists.

I agree with everyone here, use the false grip. I too feel is more in the back when doing pulling movements and on pressing movements it puts a lot less stress on the wrist since the weight is resting closer to your wrist bones. When you wrap your thumb around the bar it forces it out more so that it has a lever, your hand bones, pushing down on your wrist and that develops more force on the wrist.

Chalk

Do you guys use chalk with the suicide grip when benching and Military Inclines?

just becareful guys, thumbless grip and a fraction of a second of lose form on bench and...well...it's not good.

for safety maybe you could strap the bar while benching and still use suicide grip.? ill wind up doing this after i crack my sternum suiciding.
